LECTURES BEING GIVEN BY TWO PROFESZORS. Prof. Rucker and Dr. Morse Have Classes in Citizenship for Women. Following the lead of some of the northern colleges, the Uni versity of South Carolina has inaugurated classes in "Citi zenship" for the women of Co lumbia. Prof. E. Marion Rucker of the Law School, and Dr. Josiah Morse, Professor of Psychology and Philosophy are in charge of the course, and give lectures each week on sub jects pertaining to the oppor tunities open to women to be good citizens. The first lecture was given last Friday by Prof. Rucker on the "Three Departments of Government-Legislative, Exe cutive and Judicial." The sec ond was given by Dr. Morse last Tuesday. Each professor will continue to lecture every other week until the course is completed. Between 40 and 50 women of the community have registered for the classes. The following men are in the infirmary: Ardrey, Miley, Ken nedy, McElveen, Humphries, Martin, C. W. Richardson and Mears. Ii Listei I a .LITERARY SOCIETIES. 'Clariosobhic At the meeting last Saturday night the Clariosophic Society elected new officers for the sec ond term. E. B. Smith, of Mul lins, Vice President, and a member of the Senior Class was chosen President. Since enter ing the university he has taken an active part iii society work and has three times made the varsity debating team. He was awarded second place in the Roddy debate last year and has won the medals for best de claimer, orator and rebater in the Clariosophic Society. Other officers elected: J. R. Bryson, Greenville, Vice President; H. R. Smith, Chester, Literary Critic ; J. C. Webb, Saluda, Sec retary; S. D. Rogers, Mullins, Treasurer; T. O. Sease, Little Mountain, Recorder; O. C. Blackmon, Lancaster, Sergt.-at Arms; H. H. Woodward and A. M. Barshay, Monitors; Board of Pardons: W. S. Miley, Leroy Mims and Z. L. Foy. C. Thompson. A.C. Mimms read an article en titled "An Exaggerated Peril," which spoke of the impossibili ty of Bolshevism being forced on America. Henry McLeod read an article entitled "What is the Meaning of Hell?" C. T. MacDonald, extemporaneous speaker of the evening, made a very impressive talk on the subject of Professor's salaries. He compared the fabulous wages of the day laborer with the university teacher's salary. The query for the debate was: Resolved, That the Treaty of Peace-with its League of Nations covenant should be ratified at once without amendment and without reservation. The affirmative was upheld by F. A. Thompson and W. L. Refo; the negative by T. E. Snelling and Angus McCaulay. Mr. McCaulay caused the house considerable merriment by his witty remarks. Wauchope was chosen as an honorary member. In view of the fact that Mrs. Wauchope was the originator of the idea of a society among the Co-eds, the girls feel that they have made a very wise selection.
