RODDEY MEDAL QUERY DECIDED BY COUNCIL Both Large and Small Triangles To Be Continued In accordance with the plans of the DebaAing Council tbhe Roddey Medal debate will be held this year on December 12. The query decided upon by the council and. approved by Mr Roddey is: "Resolved, That immigration to the United States be prohibited for five years after the signing of peace." Each of the literary societies is entitled to one con testant on each side of the de bate and preliminaries will be held by the respective societies some time in the near future. This rfedal is given by Mr. John T. Roddey, of Rock Hill, an alumnus of the University. It is one of the most spirited de bates on the entire. Carolina schedule and has perhaps more contestants than any other. The Euphradian Society has succeeded in winning first place in the contest for the last three years and has secured second place decisions twice in the same period. Mr. J. 0. Van Meter was the winner last year with E. B. Smith second. Only members of the two literary so cieties are eligible for the de bate. The council also decided to continue the debate with Flori da and Tennessee the date for this year's contest to be the third Friday, night in March. The query has not yet been decided upon but will probably be selected before the month is out. The University of Ten nessee was the victor of the last contest. Plans are being made in re gard to 'the contest between Carolina, Clemson and Citadel and will be completed as soon as possible. Neither the date nor the query have been select ed thus far. J. S. Dr. Jos. iah Morse, professor of psy chology and philosophy, will represent the University of South Carolina at Vanderbilt. The lecturers to the Universities of South Carolina will be Pro fessor George Howe, depart ment of ancient languages, University of North Carolina. The lectures to the Universities of North Carolina and Virginia are as yet unknown, and none of the speakers have announced their subjects or set the time for their lecture. It is probable however, that as heretofore they will deliver them in the latter part of the winter or the spring of next year. The exchange lectures were begun in 1914-15, the year that Dr. Currell became presi dent of the University of South Carolina and he had the honor of making the first address from this University to Vander bilt. He was followed in 1915 1916 by Professor Patterson Wardlaw, Dean of the School of Education, who lectured for this University at the Univer sity of North Carolina. The last lecture before the war from the University of South Caro lina was delivered at the Uni versity of Virginia by Professor Yates Snowden, department of history and- poltical science. The lecturers to the University of South Carolina during this period were, Professor Ven able, University of North Car olina; Professor Glenn, Vand erbilt University and Professor Forrest, University of Virginia. Those who had the good for tune to hear any of the prev ious exchange lectures received great benefit from them and all will welcome the news that this valuable course of instruc tion has ben resumed. School of Arts and Science, with various- courses of study in Languages, History, Secience, etc., leading to the degree of A. B. and B. S. General Scholarships worth from $100 to $150 each. II.
