PETIGRU DAY AT THE UNIVERSITY JUNE 9 Noted Orators to Be Guests of the Occasion. The University authorities have selected June 9 as "Petigru Day." There will be held exer cises celebrating the completion of the new law school building Vhich has been named for James J. Petigru, one of the most dis tinguished lawyers in the history of South Carolina, and an alumus of the South Carolina College. Joseph W. Barnwell of the Charleston bar will deliver an address on Petigru's life and character. There is probably no one in this State better quali fled than Mr. Barnwell to do justice to the memory of the great lawyer, recognized for so many years as the leader of the South Carolina bar and one whose wide human sympathies and unyielding strength and purity of character have placed him among the great men of South Carolina. Moorfield Storey, a distingi. uished Boston lawyer, will also make an address upon this oc casion. Mr. Storey is recog nized today in the foremost rank of the legal profession in Amer ica., He was president of the American Bar Association in -1896 and is the author of "The Life of Charles Sumner" in the Statesman's stories. He deliver ed an address some years ago before the South Carolina Bar Association and many of those who heard' him will recall the eloquent plea and convincing argument made by him at that time for independence for the Filipinos. The program for Petigru Day will include a reception to be given by the president of the University and the dean of the Law School on Monday evening. The alumni of the Law School are making plans for a full and representative attendance there by giving an expression of their appreciation of the legislative ac tion which has resulted in the handsome Law School building on the campus.
