WILL PLANT TREES FOR DEAD SOLDIERS University to Commemorate Lives of Men Who Died in Service-Making List of Kill ed. Trees to, commemorate the lives of brave sons of South Carolina who gave their lives in the service overseas will be planted in 'many towns over the State by school children and organizations of the towns. This idea as a memorial to the men is being carried out at the University of South Carolina. Statistics as to the exact number of alumni, students and professors killed or died dur ing the war are difficult to ob tain, but every effort is being made to have a complete list of these men as soon as possible. When this is completed the number of trees and location will be announced. Prof. A. C. Moore has been appointed by President Currell . to, have charge of planting the trees. Heyward Brockington, Rich ard Winsted and Boderick' Mc Donald have been elected by the student body to cooperate with Prof. Moore in this memo rial plan. The list of men killed or died from disease thus far complet ed contains the following stu dents and alumni of the univer sity: I. Wesley Wilbanks, Cross Keys; R. 0. Purdy, Sumter; Dewalt League, Gray Court; Seaborn Colcock, Columbia; J. S. Reynolds, Jr., Columbia; F. C. Herbert, Spartanburg; W. B. DeLoach, Camden; H. C. Mobley, Heath Springs; Mc Kenzie McIntosh, Columbia; Frank Sanders, H. C. Horton, Columbia; Allison Pow, Salu da; Edward R. Roberts, Colum bia; Lawrence G. Sullivan, El berton, Ga.; Farrell Sanders, Blackville, and Conner Fennell, Fairfax. As soon as a complete list is made the trees will be planted with appropriate exercises, at tended by the student body and friends. W. E. Bowen, a member of the senior law class, was awarded the medal offered by Thomas H. Peeples, former at torney general, for the best orator or debater in the law school. The debate was held last Thursday night in the library of the new law build ing. A week's suspension is given to any Freshman who appears on the campus at Tulane uni versity without a green cap.
