CAROLINA'S WEEK OF PLEASURE BIG SUCCESS (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE.) Mrs. G. A. Wauchope, Prof. and Mrs. E. M. Rucker and Dean and Mrs. L. T. Baker. The climax of the week was reached on Thursday night when Miss Weston was crown ed Carolina's queen. The cere mony took place on the campus and the scene in the late of the afternoon was very beautiful. The throne was placed in front of the monument about the middle of the campus and was decorated in green and royal purple. The procession was headed by Dr. Currell, president of the university, and the queen-elect Miss Weston. The queen was charmingly ,pretty in an airy gown of white flounced silk net over silver cloth, made in sim ple, girlish style with a fichu bodice. She carried an armful of pink roses. Her maids, all of whom like herself are co-eds at the university, wore .organdy forks and hats to match in pas tel shades, Miss Margaret Mc Gregor and. Miss Dorothy Vaughn being in nile green, Miss Mary Wingfield and Miss Isabel Legare in lavender,: and Miss Shirley Black and Miss Grace Gibbes in pink. The queen was escorted to her throne and there crowned by Dr. Currell after a very appro priate address in keeping with the occasion. Following 'this was an informal reception on the green and later the party adjourned to the gymnasium, where several delightful hours were spent. The exercises and reception were attended by a large num ber of the university students, a part of the faculty and stu dent body of Columbia college and many Columbians. Mies Rosa Mahaffey of Co lumbia college has been ilect ed president of the S. C. C. P. A. for next year. Miss Mahaf fey is president of the Y. W. C. A. at Columbia college, and has taken an active interest in the publications since her en trance there. J. E. Norwood of the university was elected cor responding secretary of the as sociation. Committees were appointed to begin arrange ments for the meeting next year which is to be held in Co lumbia. "EThe majority of the stu dents of the university do not appear to have developed a re markable astute or skilful type of student leadership."-Co lumibia State. DR. CURRELL VISITS -COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY Dr. W. S. Currell returned Wednesday. morning from New York, where he went to confer with the heads of the depart ments of commerce and finance at Columbia university and to see how these departments at this institution are conducted. He is to recommend to the uni versity board of trustees a type of commerce and finance school which is to be established next session. In its annual appropriation the 1919 -general assembly in cluded $3,000 for the establish ment of this department. Dr. Currell and the committee on organization are studying sim ilar schools at other colleges before making a final decision. An expert will be secured to head the new department, which will be prepared to ad mit students at the beginning of the 1919-1920 session. While in New York Dr. Cur rell attended a banquet of the American University Union. Stone beat Evans' throw to first, but Rhame failed to advance, Mirmow fumbled Gressett's grounder, filling the bases. Rhame ,scored as Sims retired McCloud at first. Mir mow fielded Wright's grounder but tripped as he was about to throw and Stone scored. Lam bright popped up to Evans, ending the inning.
