GAMECOCK DEBATERS SELECTED FOR 1919 Big Triangle to be Held on Fri day of This Week At preliminaries held re cently the Carolina debating teams were chosen for the 1919 - debates. M. A. Wright and E. B. Smith will represent the uni versity against the University of Florida at Knoxville, Tern., while E. P. Hodges and J. R. Bryson will debate against the C C -C CA M. A. WRIGHT Affirmative Debater on Big Tringle University of Tennessee at Gainesville, Fla" The query is, "Resolved, That the govern ment should own and operate the railroads." Carolina has the affirmative against Florida, and the negative against Ten nessee. The Tennessee affir mative and the Florida nega E. B. SMITH Member of Affirmative Team tive will debate in Columbia. The date for this contest is May 2. This is the seventh debating team that M. A. Wright has made since coming to Carolina. He is at present a member of the Senior law class and presi dent of the law association. He has held the honors of being edi tor of the annual, The Gamecock, Carolinian, first honor in the State oratorical in 1914, second honor in the Southern oratorical the same year. - Always an ac tive man in literary society work and one of the University's best orators and debaters. E. P. HODGES Who Represents Carolina Against Tenn. E. B. SMnith is a member of the Junior academic class and the Clariosophic Literary Society ; he was on the team that debated Clemson last year and is to de. bate the affirmative side of the little triangle this year ; he is business manager of the college J. R. BRYSON Debater on Negative Team annual, member of the debating council, presideflt of the Athletic Association and an active worker in his society. E. P. Hodges is a member of the Senior law class and the Euphradian Society. Since com ing to the University he has taken an active interest in de bating and oratorical contests and has won several honors in them.
