CO-ED DEPARTMENT__ Miss Jessie Fraser, one of our M. A. co-eds, will room in the girls' dormitory in DeSaussure two weeks in order to write her graduating thesis. Miss Helen Claxon, a day stu dent, will room in West DeSaus sure during the remainder of the session. It will be of interest to the many friends of Miss Roberta Andrews, who has been ill for some days past, to learn that she has recovered and is now able to attend her classes. Misses Pearle Fallaw and Dorothy Vaughn went home with Miss Eliza Lykes for the week-end and report a pleasant trip. Miss Mary Sledge has com pleted her course in the law school and returned to her home at Chester. She will return to the University for her diploma in June. Miss Iva Leonard, one of our popular, co-eds, came near being asphyxiated Sunday morning in a bath room of the girls' dormi tory. Water, in the bath room is heated by gas and in some way a leak was sprung in the pipes allowing the deadly fumes to escape. Miss Leonard was bathing when several other girls in the building heard her gasp ing and went to her aid. She was found lying on the floor un conscious. Upon finding the young lady in this condition medical aid was summoned and after applying every known means for resusci tation of such cases she was finally revived. Miss Leonard had a close call and it was only after a hard medical battle that she was saved. At last report her condition was very much improved. Prof. N, in French 4: "What is a camisole do force?" Senior W.: "It is something girls give each other for Christ mas presents." DOES EDUCATION PAY? I(SPECIAL)I Winthrop: Mr. Win. Lind say, of the University, has been visiting on the campus for the past several days. It is uncer tain as to the exact time Mr. Lindsay will return to Colum bia. He has been the guest of (this was continued on another page; we lost the page.) CUP FOR CHAMPION BASKETBALL TEAM All Classes to Compete in New Form of Sport. J. 0. VanMetre, physical director at the University, has offered a cup to the class that puts out the best basketball team. Class basketball is prac itically a new form of athletics at this institution, and its suc cess this season will largely de termine its future career. Teams have already been organized by the Junior and Freshmen classes. A schedule is being ar ranged whereby each team will play nine games; the champion ship will be judged on a per centage basis, provided every team plays the required number. It is hoped by those interested that the Senior and Sophomore classes will be ready to enter the race within the next week. The first game will be played be tween the Juniors and Fresh men next Wednesday. The three medals for the "gym" contest will be offered again this year. T. B.
