DR. MORSE ON NEGs Lieut. Col. Roberts, Commani pital, Makes Short Ad Tour Plan fc Wednesday night at the reg ular Y. M. C. A. meeting Dr. Josiah Morse gave the fourth lecture of his series of six on the race problem. The room was filled with interested lis teners. Two officers from the camp made short talks after Dr. Morse's lecture, and the discussion. "We should," said Dr. Morse, "have a proper time prospec tive." The human race has been here some hundred thou sand years, and tho one race is ahead of another, when the gong sounds all may end neck and neck. There is a reason why all races are different tho we do not know why. Dr. Morse then opened the meeting for discussion, and said he would like to have an ex pression of the reactions from his lectures. Several were call ed on to express their views on the question and much interest was shown in the discussion. Lieut. Col. Roberts, comman der of the base hospital at the camp, was then introduced. Col. Roberts said he was re minded of his old days at col lege when he saw that compus, buildings, and students. "This is no time for States, but the time for a nation," he said. We should treat the negro as pat ients are treated at the hos pital, as we would have our :rother treated were he sick. "It isn't a ques tion of color," he said, "it is j question of national progress. We cannot raise the negro high er than his capabilities permit but we must elevate him soon er or later or he will drag u down. The first of the tours will b< taken one day this week. The trip will be made to the negro reformatory in Lexington coun ty. The next trip will be ar ranged at the next meeting Wednesday.
