ALL-STATE SELECTION
DIFFICULT TO DECIDE
Many Men are Considered.
Clarke of Carolina Pick
of All Critics.
The Gamecock in announcing
an all-State football eleven did
not intentionally wait until the
various coaches and sport writers
had picked their team, but that
fact makes the task easier. Not
having witnessed all the games
of the State colleges The Game
cock accepts in a number of cases
the judgment of the professional
sportsmen.
To an amateur it appears that
there has been a wealth of back
field material and a dearth of
great linesmen and ends. This
may be due to the fact that as a
rule only experienced men gain
places in the backfield while new
men are forced into line positions.
The team selected by Coach W.
Dixon Foster is, in The G a m e
cock's opinion, a winner. In
place of Phillips of Erskine at
fullback Banks of Clemson looks
best. Moore of Carolina is as
good at guard as McKeown of
Presbyterian and for this place
itis a tossup. If Moore had play
ed as well in all games as against
Citadel there would be no hesi
tancy for a choice.
Clarke of Carolina and Thur
ston of Clemson were the only
men picked by all coaches whc
made selections. Clarke has
played sensational ball at end,
going down on punts and mak
ing frequent and brilliant tackles
behind the enemy lines.
Many of the enthusiasts are of
believe that Beall of Carolina
is better at tackle than Taber of
Citadel and only his lack of ex
perience keeps him out.
