Y. M. C. A. MEN HEAR
INTERESTING ADDRESS,
"Religion a Personal Matter,"
Subject of Lecture
Dr. C. E. Burts addressed
one of the most successful Y.
M. C. A. meetings of the year
Wednesday night in Flinn Hall.
The attendance was almost
fifty per cent. greater than us
ual. The committee responsible
for the program is planning a
meeting each week which is
worthy of the attention of ev
ery college student.
Dr. Burts spoke on "Religion
a Personal Matter". He point
ed out that many men want to
enjoy the blessings that Christ
ianity brings without being
Christians themselves and that,
they prefer to take their relig
ion "second hand". Others,
he said, appreciate the bless
ings that God bestows but do
not care for God himself. The
speaker illustrated this by say
ing that many sons seem to care
more for the property they
inherit from their fathers than
for their fathers themselves.
"God himself is worth more,
infinitely more, than the things
of God", said Dr. Burts. He
urged that Carolina men should
not take their religion "second
hand" or care too much about
"silver and gold and houses and
lands" but that they should
cultivate the friendship and
fellowship of God himself
the only thing that can satisfy
the longing of the human soul.
