to retire from college tempo
rarely on account of trouble with
his eyes.
H. E. Danner, C. T. Smith,

man have returned to college
after spending time at home on
account of sickness.
W. P. Porcher is severely ill
at his home in Charleston.
I)r. Currell delivered a lecture
last Wednesday night at Monks
Corner, his subject being Com
munity Service. He will speak
this week at Lancaster and St.
George on Civic Preparedness.
General Thompson went to
Washington last Friday toconfer
with the governmental authori
ties in regards to getting guns
and uniforms for the milstary
company.
Professor Baker spoke at
Branchville last Thursday on
Civic Education, as part of the
campaign adopted by Orangeburg
for the promotion of health and
sanitation.
Professor R. M. Kennedy de
livered an address before the
session of the Southern Edu
cational Conference at Macon
Ga. March 20, on "Some Printed
Aids for the Teacher Librarian."
)r. Josiah Morse delivered an
address before the Richland
C:>unty Teachers Association
last week.
CERCLE FRANCAIS TO
HEAR ADDRESS
Students Present First Act of
French Comedy
The "piece de resistance" of
the regular meeting of the Cercle
Francais to be held tonight will
be addressed by Monsieur Ferdi
nand Edward Buisson on "Les
Orphelins de la Guerre." Mon
sieur Buisson is a lecturer of in
ternational repute and his subject
is both timely and interesting.
A group of University students
will present the first act of
Eugene Labriche's comedy, "le
Voyage de Monsieur Perrichon."
Labriche is as the French say
"notre premier producteur de gaz
exhilarant" while "Perrichon"
is in many ways his masterpiece.
This is by far the largest under
taking ever attemptedl in French
by the University and it should
draw a large audience.
A select musical program has
been prepared and will add much
to the success of the evening.
The date of meeting has been
changed from April 10 to April
18. The meeting will be held in
the University chapel and is sche

four lectures: one to the student
body, and three to professor
classes in history. Two of these
were in slavery in South Carolina
the 'other two on Francis Lever
and his sons. Professor Snowden
in talking of his reception at
Virginia said that he was un
usually well recieved "not a
man", he says, "went to sleep
in my address before the student
body, (luite unlike my classes
here."
