HATS OFF TO THE TEAM The basket ball season of 1916 17 has come to an end. We were, not so successful as we had eount ed on being, but our season was far from a failure. No one can say that we did not play just as clean a game as any team that ever went on the floor. No one can say that the team did not fight hard for victory in every game. This is true athletics after all. Besides this we won a ma-. jority of the games. Hats off to Coach Foster, hats off to the team, and hats off to the management. May every season be as great a suc.cess, and may every team give us the right to he as proud of them as we are of this one. HIGH SCHOOL DEBATING We notice that in the high school meet program, to be held here in April. no debating is in cluded. This is a bad oversight. In other states, triangular de bates are held between cities most accessable to each other. Tlie winners meet the winners of some adjacent triangular contest, and so on until the contesting high schools have narrowed down to one school in each part of the state, according to the most log ical geographical division. These two winners select the team rep resenting them that upholds the side they draw on the querry, and the two successful teams meet each other at the Univer sity. I)ehating, in some respects, is a training that can be gotten in no other way. Encourage it and give the University one more point of contact with the high schools of the state. COED ATHL.ETICS What has become of' the coed's physical training class? Why are oIr coeds so far behind those of* other co-educational institu tions, when it comes to athletics? Perha)s the answer to the first <Iiestionl will give us asoution to the second. But. he this as it may, something is undisputably wrong. Why should there be two years of compulsory physical training for the boys and none for the girls? Why should the boys have a monoply on athletic teams representing the Univer sity? With two girls' colleges right here in Columbia, and scores within easy reach in the state, the plea certainly cannot b)e no Olopponents. The trouble lies with the UJni versity au thorities, anid with the coeds themselves. Some one of' you fair sex take the lead and start something mohving.
