Addresses Chapel on Double
Standard of Morals
Professor T. W. Shannon, of
Deleware, Ohio, president of the'
Practical Eugenics Movement
and editor of Eugenics Magazine,
who has been lecturing in the
city all this week under the aus
pices of the City Y. M. C. A.,
gave a very forceful talk in chapel
Wednesday morning February 21,
on the "Double Standard of Mor
als for Men and Women." Dr.
Shannon explained how this
"Women do right" and "men do
as they please" idea came into
being in the primitive ages, when
man, as owner and master of his
physical inferiors, found ibprofit
able that she be good. He showed
with connection, how in modern
times this prevails, and is foster
ed by that powerful force, called
public opinion. "Change public
opinion in regard to those things, "
said Dr. Shannon in part , "aid
you will have solved the prob
lem." The faculty and student
body enjoyed the speaker's taik
very much.
"Don't call me professor; just
plain 'Mister'," Prof. Clarence
Perkins of the department of
European history at Ohio State
tells his classes. "The word 'pro
fessor' has such a doubtful mean
ing. If you yell thatatmeon the
street, somebody might think I
was a dancing master or an ani
mal traii.er."
