evidence. Even our Co-eds turn
ed out en mass and braved one of
the severest days we have had
this winter to see the ceremony
and hear the inaugural address.
President Currell and at least
one alumnus were among the
Governor's escort to the chair of
the Speaker of the House. Chief
Justice Eugene B. Gary adminis
tered the oath of office.
Governor Manning dealt at
length upon education in his ad
dress, pleading for its advance
ment in the state. He.also spoke
upon the Penal Correction 'and
Charity laws and institutions
which were of much interest to
the Philosophy 11 class under
Mr. Johnston, Secretary of the
State Board of Charities and Cor
rections.
The sentiment on the campus
seems to be heartily in favor of
Governor Manning's recommend
ation of reforms and improve
ments.

New officers to Be Installed
Society officers will be installed
at the first meeting in February.
The two societies have adjourned
until then on account of the mid
term exminnains.

Sewanee is to have a new ath
letic field costing $25,000.
Vanderbilt will lose five of last
year's football monogran, men
including Rabbit Curry.
We sympathize with Clemson
in the loss of one of their stu
dents, Cadet Josiah Owen Mc
Cants Jr., of Monks Corner.
We heartily commend the
Charleston High School for their
weekly paper. It does them cred
it and sets a fine example that
other High Schools of the state
would do well to follow.

grass that there were 25 varieties
on the campus.
A keg rush will be held atVer
mont soon. A keg of sweet ci
der will be placed in the center
of the athletic field and at a giv-'
en signal, twenty-five men from
each class will rush toward the
keg. After seven minutes of
scrambling the side having the
keg farthest from their starting
point will be allowed to enjoy
the contents of the keg.

a woman liked better than ano
ther woman it was a man. She
said that woman did not even
wish the ballot to set up the ex
isting state of affairs, but only to
co-operate with men in making
this a more pleasant world in
which to live. She laid much
stress on woman's inherent right
to vote, and stated that since the
United States Supreme Court
had declai'ed that women were
"p)eople" that they should not be
denied this right.
Miss Ramsey has traveled thru
many states of the Union uphold
ing her cause. She is thoroly
familiar with her subject and will
command a hearing before any
intelligent audience.
