Maybe the boat that towed the

Of course, we leave criticism

we have had more real fun at

did at the Ballet Russe.
APPRECIATION
This week's issue of THE GAME
COCK is dedicated to the Carolina
foot-ball team of 1916. Their
record in games won and lost
was not as high as that of the
previous years. Although begin
ning the season under great dis
advantages, they gradually im
proved by steady and efficient
coaching, ending the season in a
creditable manner. Not discour
aged by defeat, backed by a few
faithful cheerers, they fought
each game from beginning to end,
no matter how the score stood.
Owing to the unfortunate con
dition of our athletics last sea
son, and the institution of the
one year rule, we could not hope
to do better than we did. As a
result of these handicaps we
were forced to have an inexpe
rienced team, as shown by the
fact that but two players who
started last season's Clemson
game were on the varsity this
year.
There is a silver lining to every
cloud. We have laid the found
ation this season for a better
team next year, buried unclean
athletics at Carolina, and put out
a freshman team that was a
CrOdit this Season and will be a
valuable asset to next year's
varsity.

We had begun to think that
"Pep" at Carolina had died and
were about to run a runeral
notice in THE GAMECOCK. Game
after game a few fathfuls,
sprinkled here and there on the
kleachers, sent up cheers for the
Garnet and Black eleven as they
fought on the gridiron.
Old "Pep" recovered from his
spell and on Thanksgiving was
on Davis Field in form that
brought back (lays of days of
1912. The cheering of the stu
(lent body on this occasion was
nothing short of excellent, and
it is to be oommended. They
stoodI on the bleachers in a driz
zling rain and cheered lustily
throughout the game. They
showed the alumni and people
of the State that they were still
alive andl were p)roud of their
team. Keel) up the good work!
