PRESS ASSOCIATION MET IN GREENVILLE (clINTINII-A) FRlOM IF,ONE%) G. W. C. was the liveliest of the association, many of the dele gates taking part in the discus sions. Dr. David M. Ramsey welcomed the association to Greenville and especially to G. W. C., and was responded to by Miss Trent Keith of Converse. Mr. Elbert J. Dickert of New berry gave a paper on the "Edi torial Department." Miss Lu cile Stoney of Columbia College discussed the "Literary Depart ment." Miss Louise Austin of Winthrop read a paper concern ing the Y. M. C. A. and the Y. W. C. A. departments of a col lege paper. The "Exchange Department" w;as well handled' by Miss Susan Howze of Chico ra College. Prof. J. L. Vass made one of the best addresses; of the convention, his subject' being "The College Journal and the humanities." Mr. C. G. Har ris of Clemson told of the "Finan-i cing of a College Publication." Mr. E. M. Anderson of Wofford in a few well chosen remarks discussed "The Weekly Publica tion." These proved extremely interesting. and many of the' delegates took part in the discus silns. Friday afternoon a business session was held in the science hall at Furman. Owing to a de lay in the appointment of judges the reading of the prize essay, poem. story, and sketch had to be postponed. At this time the repoirt of the executive commit tee was given. Several altera tions in the constitution were malde and approve(d by the asso ciation. One of the chief changes was the giving of a medal for the best one act play published during the year in any of the college journals. Following the business session an informal re (eption was given the delegates' at the Furman library. The most enjoyable feature of the convention came Friday evening with a banquet at the Imperial Hotel. A bounteous and delicious repast was served. The presence of sweet college. girls featured this final meeting. Toasts were given as follows: 1. The Editor-in-chief, Mr. .1. H. Dick, Clemson. 2. Co-Education is the Thief of Time (with apol ogies to Young), Miss Xymena Smith, Due West Woman's Col lege. 3. Exchanges, Miss Gladys Hell. Coker College. 4. Cruelty to words, Mr. D)avid S. Polier, University of South Carolina. 5. The Penalty of humor, Mr. R. L. Coe, Presbyterian College. 6. Women Editors, Miss Helen Morgan, Greenville Woman's College. Mr, T. C. Johnson of Furman acted as toastmaster and proved himself worthy of the SCHOOL CHAMPION SHIP TO BE DECIDED Chester Meets Florence Here Sal urday. Good Game Assured. Saturday, on Davis field the teams from Chester and Florence will contest for the high school football championship of South Carolina. Chester has won the sectional championship in upper South Car olina and Florence in the Pee Dee. Both teams have a fine record, and have played good ball all the season. It is a subject of great satisfaction that the state cham pionship can be definitely settled on neutral territory. The game will be staged by the University athletic authorities who have guaranteed the ex penses of both teams. The board will also furnish first class offic ials. Van Metre will probably referee, the other officials have not been decided upon. The Carolina student body will act as host upon the occasion. The ladies of both Columbia and Chicora Colleges have been in vited to attend in a body free. The admission will be small and a good game is assured. CAROLINA REPRESENTED INENDURANCERUN The intercollegiate cross-coun try run will be held at Newberry Thanksgiving. The run is sched uled to end during the P. C. and Newberry game. Each college has entered four men. The Car olina men who have won out in the preliminaries and will enter are: .1. L. Bailey. Robert Turner, David Rogers, and Langford. These men are good runners and should represent Carolina in good style. The Euphradian Contest. The Euphradian Literary So ciety will hold its annual orator ical contest on Monday night, December 4. This contest is on ly open to undergraduates of the society who have not won medals in oratorical contests at the Univ ersity or any college. A hand s me gold medal is given to the winner. Dr. W. S.
