Y. M. C. A. NEWS "Spirit, Mind, Body." The Y. M. C. A. held its regu lar meeting last Wednesday even ing in Flinn Hall. Before a large gathering of Carolina men Dr. C. E. Burts spoke on "Why a college man should study the Bible." He gave the following reasons:-(1)for moral self re spect and dignity, a man's edu cation is not complete unless he knows something of the Bible, study it for yourself, allow no one to do it for you;(2)study it be cause it is a modern book, you can apply it to all walks and acts of life. He gave the apostle Paul's view why a man should study the Bi ble. She first reason was that it is profitable for teaching; it teach es the relationships of life, of man to man, of man and society, of man and money, and cooperation of mankind; the Bible is a book of progress, study it not as a book of history or literature but as a book teaching the relations of life. The next reason was that it was profitable for reproof;college men may put the Bible in the back groud, and place moral and intel lectual knowledge ahead, but they should study the Bible and see the restraint, the reproof, that is put forth, and heed this reproof. The third reason is that it is good for correction, you can dis cover your faults end wrong do ings and correct them by a study of it. Another motive is that it is profitable for instruction in righteousness. Lastly the speak er said, "A careful study of the Bible would make you more use ful to the world around and about you; scholars of the present day are studying it 'for its practical and vital application to things of life; and for these reasons every one should study the Bible be cause of its benefits." The Bible Study campaign is being carried on at present and all who see fit, shuld join, as the Y. M. C. A. management have secured excellent teachers. The first classes will meet next Tues day at 7:30. Someone will see every one on the campus before then and let them pick out the class they wish to attend.
