LAW DEPARTMENT
"Ignorantia legis neminem excusat"
At an election of the Law As
sociation the following officers
were elected for the next ses
sion: Pres. F. A. Thompson;
vice-pres., M. J. Shirley; sec.,
M. A. Wilder; treas., H. C. Jen
nings; clerk-of-moot-court, R. E.
Wilson; law editor of THE GAME
COCK, W. M. Reynolds; sheriff,
D. S. Polier; court crier, S. D.
Turteltaub.
The Law Association convened
at 7:45. There being no regular
program fixed for the evening
the association went into a busi
ness meeting. Committees were
appointed to attend to the diplo
mas and select the seniors quali
fied to receive said diplomas.
After a few other minor busi
ness discussions the floor was
extended to the outgoing seniors
who quickly took advantage of
the opportunity placed before
them.
Mr. Wade first took his stand
upon the rostrum and spoke
about the benefit he had received
from the association. He spoke
of its future and the wonderful
scope of knowledge along the
legal line it holds out to all those
who wish it. Mr. Wade then
thanked the association for its
kindly and earnest assistance
and work during his administra
tion.
After several minutes of no
response, Mr. Jones arose to the
occasion, not because he wished
to show that he was timid, but
to set the ball to "a rollin."
Mr. Jones made good his threat
and the seniors followed each
other in quick snccession on the
rostrum. The others speaking
were, Messrs. Love, Stansfield,
Pender, Davis, Dillard, and
Sanders. The floor was then
extended to the juniors and Mr.
Jques of the senior class took
the chair. Mr. Polier took the
floor first by request from the
seniors. He was followed by
Messrs. Wilson, Tompson, Rey
nold, Jennings, Turteltaub, Wil
der, Wingo, Shirley and Cook.
After the speeches it was
moved and carried that a com
mittee be appointed to draw up
resolutions of thanks to our
three professors who have work
e I so earnestly with us this year.
There being no further business
the last roll call of the year
1915-16 was called and the meet
ing adjourned.
Professor J. S. Dudley of the
History department made an ad
dress at the closing of the Fort
Motte school Friday, the 19th.
Mr. Dudley was the guest of J.
C. Weathers A. B. '14 who is
superintendent of the scool.i
Medal Goes to Wardlaw.
A. L. Wardlaw won first place
in the Euphradian Declamation
Contest held Tuesday, May 22.
The other men in the finals were,
E. B. McGill, H. B. Weaver and
P. F. Haigler, all of whom had
good selections and delivered
them well.
The subject of Wardlaw's
declamation was, "Napoleon the
Little" and he delivered it with
much force and vim. P. F. -
Haigler won second place, hisl
subject being, "The Trial of Ab
ner Barrow." Three years ago
Mr. Wardlaw won the State
High School Oratorical Contest
and he bids fair to make the
Euphradian society an excellent (
speaker in the future.
The Intra-Society debate was
not held on account of the ab
sence of of one of the gentlemen
who was to debate.
