One of the truly great char- f
acters of the campus has pass- f
ed away in a most tragic man- V
ner. A man whom Carolina t
can scarcely spare has met an t
untimely death. Words are
inadequate and even thoughts
themselves fall far short of
being.. capable of describing
the character of a man like
Ashley E. Merrimon. He was
the idol of his fellow students
and the pride of his instruct
-rs---his life an example of
what a college man ought to ir
be. Much was expected of
Merrimon and he gave every
indication of fulfilling every
xpectation. But his life- l<
short as it was- was not with
-)ut avail. The approbation
we heap upon his life, tho fa
from being sufficient to por
tray his intrinsic worth, at
least is beneficial to others,
who thereby may be stimu
iated to imitate his good.
