A committee of the faculty of
the University, headed by Prof.
A. C. Carson Will raise a guar
anty fund from the alumni and
trustees of the University and
the business men of Columbih.:.
The following is a letter being
sent out by the University au
thorities:.
"In twelve schools and colleges.
this week a'most two thousatid
persons are hard at work at daily
rehearsals of the- manifold parts

vi campus of the University of
e South Carolina and at the Co
lumbia Theatre, Tuesday, April
25. Last week has been one of
much progress and as the vast
spectacle has approached com
pletion in :erest in its appearance
has grown greatly. in 'the city
and in the state at large.
"An expert costumer from
Philadelphia, who has costumed
several notable historic pageants
including that of the famous
Hudson-Fulton celebration some
year ago, has received the con
tract for the costumes. :.ix hun
dred costumes have been ordered
for the principal -characters.
Elizabethan stage furnishings
for the night performance are
bei6g prepared, and the Uni
versity campus has been care
fully surveyed and the entrances
and exits laid out. Perry Teeple
and E. R. Jeter, two University
instructors, have composed ex
cellent lines and music for cer
tain parts of the afternoon and
night performances. Miss Jessie
Green of Columbia has been re
cently elected May Queen by the
students and will'- appear with
her court in the pageant.
"Columbia expects to enter
tain a large crowd for the day.
Special rates on the railroads,will
attract -many and the motoring
parties are expected to be nu
merous. The pageant will begin
in the afternoon at 3:30 and at
night at 8 o'clock."
