We urnderstand that some of the student judges in the Rich land School Contest awarded prizes on the basis of looks. .A LITTLE MORE LIFE A great deal is said about col lege spirit, but all that has been said can be repeated and yet not overdo the thing. There may be a difference of opinion as to what is college sbirit, but all agree that a spirit must pervarie the student body before any student activity will succeed. Baseball is the center of inter est at present, and if we hope to see our team successful they must be supported by the spirit of every individual student. Winning or losing, the spirit must reign. Indeed >it is not true spirit that goes wild when we are in the lead and subsides into morbid silence when the tide turns. Nor is it the true spirit to be sure not Carolina spirit that jeers at the opposing team. The team in opposition are visi tors and areet be regarded as such even on the diamond. This week five games will be played on University field. Let every man show his spirit as a true son of Carolina. A SUCCESSFUL YEAR The annual report of the re ligious meetings committee of the Y. M. C. A., - which space does not permit to be printed in full, shows that a total of twenty seven meetings have been held during the year with an average attendance of one hundred and fifty. This also shows a list of the best speakers to be secured, and several special programs that have proved very attractive. Among the speakers have been several members of the student body, the faculty, and a number of prominent citizens of Colum bia. The meetings given over particularly to music have been the most attractive in the history of the Y. M. C. A. at the Uni versity. The best talent of the city was secured for these pro grams and the meetings were at tended by large crowds. The Raymond Robins campaign in December, possibly the greatest evangelistic . meetings ever held on the campus, certainly in re cenit years, were attended by ninety per cent of the student body and a number of people from the city. Dr. W. D. Weath erford, who gave a series of lec tures in March, Dr. J. A. Snell of China, Dr. Minakutchi of Ja pan, "Ted" Mercer and "Tom" Farmer, are some of the speak ers whose visits to the campus will not be forgotten soon. The report speaks for itself and those in chargs of the Y. M. C. A. work; and the fact that the work has not been merely passive is evidenced by the ac tive work engaged in by the stu dents. Notice of this wvork has appeared in THE GAMECOCK from time to time and a part of it ap pears in the report printed in this issue. The secretary and his cabinet are to be congratulated upon the accomplishments of the year.
