SHOW YOUR SPIRIT
The students of the University
have an opportunity not only to
participate, but to be iii the city
where the pageant in honor of
the world's greatest poet is to be
held, an opportunity that will
come but once in the lives of
same and never -in the lives of
others. We are fortunate along
with- the other colleges and
schools of the city and the peo
ple-of ColuiibiA. -
The pageant is . under the
special direction Miss Spencer,
who has successfully arranged
similar celebrations at other
places. Dr. Wauchope is giving
a great deal of his time and ef
forts to make the occasion worth
while. It is encumbent on
the students-on every stu
dent-at Carolina to do their
parts with enthusiasm and wil
lingness..
TO AN ALUMNUS
The following appeared in the
last issue of the University
Weekly News:
r "The University of South Caro
lina lost a fine alumnus and the
teaching profession a useful
worker in the death of of E. S.
McKown, superintendent of
Cherokee County. The commit
tee on Necrology at the State
Teachers Association paid Mr.
McKown's memory the following
-- high tribute:
"But the grim reaper also
claimed a youthful worker when
t E. S. McKown, superintendent
- of Cherokee County, entered in
to eternal rest in the fulness of
young manhood. After study
' ing at the University of South
a Carolina and teaching in the ru
ral school of his home county,
he was chosen county superin
tendent by his friends and
- neighbors and fellow citizens.
The progress of the schools of
Cherokee in every line of devol
- opment is the best evidence of
- his worthy service. The pro
a foundest sympathy of the Asso
ciation is extended to his young
wife who had shared in all his
a labors and achievements.
t "Mr. McKown graduated from
r the University with the degree
of L. 1, in 1907."
