If those who room over the
chapel would make it convenient
to have house-cleaning-day, and
appoint sometime for the general
repair of broken furniture, other
than the very hour someone is
speaking in the hall below, visi
tors might feel that they are in
a place of no great danger, in
spite of the general appearance
of the interior.
During the past week several
excellent talks were made in
chapel. The students of the Uni
versity enjoy a decided advan
tage, being situated as we are,
where the opportunity of hear
ing for fifteen or twenty min
utes from time to time through
out the year, men of ability, ex
perience, and reputation. It is
a rare opportunity and we should
not permit small and trivial ex
cuses to prevent us from taking
the advantage thus offered.
A SUGGESTION
Sometime ago a committee was
appointed from the Student
body to confer with the faculty
in regard to forming a stand
ing eligibility board for the Uni
versity. As yet nothing has been
done toward carrying out this
tentative plan. Baseball will
soon begin and, long as it may
seem, another football season
will be on us in a short while.
It seems that a definite and stand
ing committee composed of mem
bers from the faculty and Stu
dent-body to decide upon the eli
gibility of any man going out for
practice, would save confusion
and be of great help to coaches
in building up their teams. Of
ten a team has been worked 1
up for a certain contest, and
at the last moment, it is found
that some men cannot partici
pate. This practically destroys
unity and means a loss of time
and expended effort. If those
in charge knew the standing of
every man before hand, they
would be able to decide upon
what material to depend for any
particular contest. Candidates
for the various teams would
know whether it worth while
to spend their time, and would
not be disappointed on the last
day before a game in which they
are anxious to play.
Such a board would also aid
the dean and Advisory Board,
for students can often ascertain
facts pertaining to the athletic
standing of men that do not
come to the knowledge of the
Advisory Board or other official
of the U Tniveri.a
