The-Executive Committee- of the Sou,th prolipa tIntcollegi ate Orqtorical.AssociAt4onx met in Rock Hill Fiday morning, Dec. 4.. Chi6lina was represented by her. executive committeeman, J. Douglas Featherstone. Several important matters were considered among which were: the timne and place of ,the next contest, selection of m&als, nomination of judges, and adding some amendments to the consti tution of the Association. The third Friday night in Apell was selected As the time for the next conteqt, and on aecount of its central location, railroad facilities, hotel accommodations and a fine offer from the Cham ber of Commerce, Greenwood was. chosen as the place for hold ing the Oratorical. Contest next April.. Greenwood wA former lythe regular meeting place of the contestants. J. D. Featherstone of Carolina, F. W. Sheppard of -the Citadel, and K. R. Kreps of Newberry were elected 'as a committee to select two designs for medals, these two designs being adopted permanently by the Association. An amendment to the consti tution' disquhlifying all 'contes. tants not taking. regular colle giate courses of four years. lead ing to a baealaureate degree was offered. This amendment was vigorously opposed by Caro lina's representative, but all the other representatives endorsed th4 amendment on the ground that.they wanted to put the con testAnts on an equal footing and th4t-the representatives of oth er colleges were not on an eqpal footing with the men frdm the law school and oth er schools of the University of South Carolina. A substitute foi this amendment was offered and passed, the* amendment' as ad9pted. being as follows:-- -In seft atter second sentence, Ar ticle IX (These two sentences state that the contestants can not be the holder of a degree and must be a member of one of the college literary societies). "and if -a candidate for a degree in arif other than a regular col legiate courise, he shall not have attended any other collegiate in stituition." The Committee was entertain ed by the Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce. Ani invitation to hold its. meetings. at Winthrop College and to lunch there in the studerits' diling~ hall was very readily accepted by- the commi tee. ALWAYS SAY: "LET'S. GO. The class championship in bas ketball for11915m wiabn by, the freshmen oniTuesda nikht when they defeated the seniors 23 to 5. The seniors.: hqd . previously - de-' feated.the.Juniqrs, and the.frsh men --had-won-over-the -sopho mores. Newton at center for the fresh men was the star of the game. He threw twice -as Inany-goals-as the remainder of, his teamrimates together... ;e.w4ys pjkyed un der the goal. and if the ball ever came near: him, he.scooped it up aid tcsed it in the basket with ease. He ,i a tall, 'big- fellow and no,.doubt will make a star eqnter for the- varsity. The i seniors fought hard thru out the -entire game but -they lacked , team work. ~They had the ball in their possession much of the time but were utterly-un able to throw goals. In the se-2 ond half, Osborne and Lauden sl4ger were shifted from for wards to guards and Williams and MarshalLsent in as forwards. The scoring .was as follows: goals; - Newton 6, Anderson 2, Wardlaw 1, and Williams 1; fouls, Anderson 1, Waring 2, and Laudenslager 3. The lineup follows: Seniors. Freshmen.
