In the cases of Copley and Ri ha, the student body feels that while the athletic authorities, managers and coaches were not directly responsible for these men appearing either as students or members of the squad, the management of the team was negligent in not discovering, re porting and having these cases acted upon more promptly. The above stated facts having been made to appear, thestudent body by resolution did declare, first: That inasmuch as an ineli gible player was used in the game of Newberry College, such game be declared forfeited by the University of South Carolina to Newberry College. Second, That inasmuch as an ineligible player was used in the game of the Presbyterian College of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina forfeit said game of the Presbyterian College of South Carolina. Third, That in asmuch as ineligible players were used in the game against Clem son College, the University of South Carolina declare the game forfeited to Clemson College: Provided, That the student body or faculty of Clemson College do, to its or their own satisfaction, ascertain and adjudge that the charges of ineligibility made in the shape of affidavits against certain of the Clemson players be incorrect and adjudge that Clemson used no ineligible play ers whatever in this game. There are but two remaining considerations in connection with this whole matter. One is that neither student body nor the fac ulty are in a position promptly and fully to ascertain the bona fides of every entrance to the University, but both stand wil ling at all times to do all in their power to maintain a high stand ard in athletics and to keep sports clean and above reproach . 'he other matter relates to the adoption of the socalled one year rule. For the benefit of the interested public we wish to make it known that the Univer versity of South Carolina as early as December, 1914, under a conference with the univer tities of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia had en tered into an agreement to adopt the socalled one year rule com mencing with the session of 1916-1917, the reason for delay ing the enforcement of the rule until such a time being that some of the contracts for athletic con tests in football for the session of 1915-1916 had already been made in contemplation of regu lations existing.at the time of the GAMECOCKS FAIL TO TAKE CITADEL Birds Captured by Soldiers Af ter Grilling Siege. Fighting desperately every minute of play the Citadel won over the University of South Carolina in their annual Thanks-:; giving Day game contest on the gridiron by a score of 3 to 0. That a close game would be play ed was expected by all, but that' the Bulldogs would defeat the Gamecocks was expected by comparatively few. However, by having the old proverbial Bull-dog tenacity and Weeks to! kick the only field goal and thus: making the score, the lads from the City by the Sea succeeded in .winning from the Gamecocks and thus captured the State cham pionship. From the beginning of the game until the fourth quarter the ball went from one end of; the field to the other, both teams struggling hard but unable to make a score. During this time Carolina tried one field goal but failed. Then at the beginning of the fourth quarter, withthe ball on Carolina's eighteen yard line,' Johnny Weeks succeeded in kick ing a field goal by a narrow mar gin, thus netting the only score of the game and winning for his team. For the Citadel, Switzer in the backfield played splendid ball, making god gains thru the line. He was the best ground gainer for the Bulldogs. Weeks, whose toe won the day, played stellar ball. Henderson, on an end, showed up in grandstand style, and as this is his first year with the Citadel, he will make them a good man in seasons to come. Jeter on the other end played a good game. He and Henderson were very fast in getting down: the field on punts. For Carolina in the backfield it may be said that "Runt" Cog geshall led the day. The confer enee rules were published in the catalog of the University for the session beginning 1915-1916, andl if it were not known it was easily ascertainable that the University of South Carolina had, not only intended to but had; specifically agreed to enforce the one year rule with the ses sion beginning 1916-1917.
