The University of South Caro lina meets the Citadel, the Mili tary College of South Carolina, in th 3ir annual football game Thanksgiving day in Columbia. This is to be the last game of the season and as they are old rivals much interest is shown in the coming contest and a great many alumni of both schools are expected to be in town for the' battle. The Citadel plays Carolina under S. I. A. A. rules. There fore the same team that repre sented the Gamecocks on the gridiron before the Clemson Ti gers will strive to down the Bull dogs next Thursday. As the Citadel has played only a few teams this year that Carolina has i it is hard to compare the strength of the respective teams from the scores but Dame Rumor has it that the Bulldogs have put out a snappy fighting team and one that will be a worthy opponent of the naked Gamecock spurs. The Citadel cadets are expect ed to come up, as usual, to see the game. This coupled with: the fact that this game closes the season will make it a galai day. Exter. sion Lectures. President W. S. EXTENSION MEETING HELD AT SUMTER' Winthrop, Clemson and Caro lina Speakers Outline Work. The second of a series of three co-operative meetings having for their purpose the outlining of the nature and purpose of the extension work that is being car ried on at Wishrop, Clemson and Carolina, was held Nov. 19 at Sumter. The meeting was post poned from the previous evening because of weather conditions. A large audience was present and evinced much interest in the subiect of extension work Clemson was represented by Prof. D. W. Daniel; Winthrop by Prof. J. E. Walmsley; and the University by Dr. Josiah Morse. Superintendent S. H. Edmunds presided over the meeting. An address was delivered by the representatives from each of the three institutions. A pleas ing feature of the program was the music rendered by the Uni versity quartette, composed of Messrs. Stannard, Wilkes, Tee ple, and Hodges. The quartette was forced to respond to several encores. The third meeting will be held in Rock Hill next week, the ex act date to be announced later. Dr. N. B. Heyward Speaks. Dr. N. Barnwell Heyward of Columbia, an alumnus of the University and a recent grad uate of Columbia University, addressed the Aesculapian So ciety last Friday night. He spoke chiefly of finances. and to'd how one could, to a great extent, work his way thru college. Dr. Heyward stressed the im portance of medical students at tending one of the large univer sitiei, stating that they were thereby better equipped in every way. Altho the address was very short, it was very practical and instructive. The society hopes to secure Dr. leyward to ad dress them in the near future. Praf. Reed Smith addressed the banquet of the Chamber of Commerce Nov. 15th. Prof. M. Goode H-olme-; attend ed the Southern Good Roads Conference in Atlanta this week. BIG DANCE ARRANGED FOR TURKEY NIGHT Evening of Pleasure in Hopor of Citadel Cadet Corps Ends Thanksgiving Festivities. The annual Thanksgiving ball will be danced in the University gymnasium next Thursday even ing, beginning at 8:30 o'clock. The dance this year is a Student Body-German Club affair, both the Student Body and the Ger man Club having decided to co operate in making the dance successful. The ball is to be given in honor of the Citadel football team and the visiting Citadel corps. Many young ladies have been invited, and a very delightful occasion is beingi arranged for. Committees from the Student Body and the German club have met and elected officers for the: dance as follows: C. C. Farrell, president; W. S. Heyward, vice president; J. McB. Dabbs, sec retary and treasurer. On the in troduction committee, Lana Sims, Leon Seay, F. M. Mar shall, J. C. McDow, C. C. Far-, rell and W. S. Heyward will serve. J. S. Dudley, W. S. Hey ward, A. S. Parker, C. B. Barks dale and J. McB. Dabbs consti tute the floor committee. The annual Thanksgiving ball is one of the big dances of the year. Good music has been pro vided and every man of the Student Body is urged to come out and bring a girl. The dance is an informal affair and a small admission fee will be charged. Wade; SCRIBES' CONVENTION HELD IN SPARTANBURG Wofford and Converse Hosts of Fourth Estate Association. Hanna, Crow, and Brearley Represented Carolina. -The South Carolina College Press Association met last week with Wofford and Con verse colleges, Spartanburg. The meeting was a successful one from every point of view, and the hosts are to be congrat ulated upon the way they enter tained the visiting delegates of the "Fourth State." The meetings were held at Wofford and Converse, and were presided over by W. W. Daniel, Jr., editor of the Wofford Col lege Journal and president of the Press Association. The del egates were entertained by both colleges, practically every col lege in South Carolina being re presented. Messrs. H. 0. Han na, editor of The Carolinian, 0. F. Crow, editor of THEI. GAME COCK and H. C. Brearley, execu tive committeeman, were Caroli na's representatives. The first regular session was held Thursday morning in the Carlisle Society Hall at Wofford following a meeting of the execu tive committee Wednesday even ing. Dr. Henry N. nyder in a delightful address welcomed the association Spartanburg and to the Wofford campus. H. 0. Hanna of the University responded to Dr. Snyder on be half of the association. R. M. Edens welcomed the delegates on behalf of the Wofford Journal, to which S. C. Stribling of Clem son responded. At this time Dr. J. A. Chiles of the Wofford fac ulty gave "Some Impressions and Expressions of a Reporter." Dr.. Chiles was a newspaper man before he took up teaching. Dr. Chiles' address was followed by a paper discussing the "Liter ary Departnent," by J. D. Hol mes, of the College of Charles toln. The Thursday afternoon ineet ing was held in the Converse cha pel.
