Carolina and Clemson will meet in a fight-to the-finish contest. All the sea-i son the students have been watching their colleges in the "ames with other colleges mainly in an eaort to forsee the results of this struggle. The Ciemson ites are praying for a victory like those of '13 and '14 while the Gamecoceks are beseeching dame fortune to favor them. The Tigers have shown excel lent form this season. They tied Davidson, held Auburn to fourteen points, and defeated Tennessee 3 t 0. Carolina's team has three vic tiries to their credit. The last game was with North Carolina A. & M. The squad has been practicing in secret and its eon ditions is in no way certain to the students. Hard scrimmag iig has been kept up for the last two weeks. Cheering practice has been held frequently. The boys have shown that they have the "pep" and are willing to use it. Un der Biatt's able leadership the student body intends to root throughout the game regardless of how the score may stand. Every student is expected to be there and root as he has never rooted before in the spirit of "Here's to Carolina. May she ever win, But, win or lose, Carolina!" DR. E. H. T. FOSTER WAS HERE TUESDAY International Secretary Indus trial Department Y. M. C. A. Dr. E. H. T. Foster, M. D., of Charlotte, N. C., and Interna tional Secretary of the Young men's thristian Association for the industrial department, was on the campus Tuesday. He has supervision over all Y. M. C. A's in the mill villages and lumber and mining camps in the South, and it was his purpose to find out in what way the students of the University could serve the work ing men in olhimbia. TENNIS TOURNAMENT HELD AT WOFFORD Sims and Wallace of Carolina Defeated Methodists. Winner of the Clemson-Erskine Meet Will Play Carolina for State Championship. The State intercollegiate tennis tournament began Thursday morning at Spartanburg when Banks and Haskell of Clemson defeated Jacobs and Gossett of Presbyterian College dy 6-2, 6-0. Sims and Wallace of the Univer sity defeated Morgan andlng ford of Wofford 6-3, 6-0. By win ning two straight sets from Wof ford, Carolina stands in one place for the contestant of the finals in doubles. The match which com pletes the first round was won by Galloway and Kennedy, repre senting Erskine, who opposed Askine and Burdett of Furman by the scores 9-7, 6-3. Clemson, by winning from Presbyterian College, and Erskine from Fur man, are to play for finals and the winner of this match will meet Carolina to decide who shall be State Champion. Lana Sims of Carolina was elected president of the State Intercollegiate Tennis Associa tion; Carl Morgan, Wofford, vice president; L.J.Cauttren, Wof ford, secretary and treasurer. CAROLINA INVITES WINTHROP AS GUEST Faculty and Students Are Invited to Davidson Game. At a student body meeting Fri day morning a resolution was passed whereby a committee was appointed to tender the Win throp College faculty and student body an invitation to be the guests of the University at the Carolina-Davidson game. A letter was written in addi tion explaining that the students would be admitted in a body or singly. Dean Baker, too, wrote to Dr. Johnson expressing the hope that Winthrop be Carolina's guest. At the student body meeting Monday morning Capt. 0. E. Going was elected student mem ber of the Athletic Advisory Board. The student body voted that it should accompany the team Wednesday afternoon on their way to play A. & M. of N.C(. CAROLINA WILL MEET DAVIDSON FRIDAY P. N Contest Will be on Univet sity Field at 3 O'clock. Winthrop, Davidson, Clemsor and Carolina Will Make the Biggest Student Gathering. Friday, Oct. 29, Carolina wi meet Davidson College on th University field. The Davidso game is always interesting an exciting. It probably ranks se< ond to the Clemson game, whic is the climax of the football sea son. Because the Presbyterian cor test is in such close proximity t the Tiger game, it is looked u on with great concern by Car< lina's friends. The student body on the other hand, looks wit composure -upon the outcome c the game. There are a numbe of men who will not play in th Clemson fight and who, thcr< fore, will be in good trim for th Davidson bunch. The game will begin at 3 p. n There wiN be many Davidso rooters on the field. The Wir throp student body will be ther< and the Clemson cadets. It wi be the biggest gathering of sti dents that has ever been on )a vis Field. Cheering will caus a considerable bit of collegiat rivalry. From President Wilson. NORTH CAROLINA - Proposal for Carolina-Clem son-Citadel Triangle. 1, Carolina - Tennessee --. Georgia Contest Expected. No Dates Have Been Set. 11 At a recent meeting of the e Debating Council action was n taken on the matter of renew ing the triangular debate be h tween the University of South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia, and if an agreement can be made the debate will be similar to last 0 year's. A challenge to debate the University of North Carolina was read and the council accept h ed, and the secretary has writ f ten for further particulars. r, The University debating au e thoraties have proposed to the - Citadel and Clemson a triangu e lar debate to be limited to un dergraduate students. If they . accept, this will be the first time n Carolina debaters have met - either Clemson, Citadel, or Uni , versity of North Carolina teams. I1 The addition of these colleges to i- Carolina's debating promises in L- creased interest to this part of e student activities, and will be e the means of promoting more rivalry between the institutions. It is hopes that the Carolina Tennessee-Georgia triangle can be retained for the ensuing v year. It is too early as yet to a announce the dates for any con n tests. STUDENT BODY WENT WITH TEAM TO TRAIN n Cheering Recalls That of Clem - son Defeat of 1912. P The student body of the Uni versity of South Carolina gath ered at the marshal's office Wed nesday afternoon and under the - direction of cheer leader Blatt marched to the Seaboard station to give the football team a good send off on their trip to meet f North Carolina A. & M. The team, accompanied by Coach Edgerton and Manager Danner, ? occupied a private car. The crowd gathered close around the ,car cheering and singing the col lege songs until the team rolled out of the station. It recalls to the old men the college spirit of 1912, ,the year that Carolina reigned~ supnreme over Clemson.
