VARSITY GLEE CLIUB VES FIRST PROGRAM Carolina Vocalists and Musi cians Render Concert. Vocal 'Soloists -and Quartette (Featured-Large ,Crowd Attended. On'Thursday evening the Uni versity ,Glee 'Club charmed a large crowd in the chapel audi torium. This was the initial program of the year. The oc casion was delightful and speaks well for the University. The University Orchestra ush ered in the occasion with an Dverture. The Glee Club then sang a medley of the latest songs. The first piece that could really show off the talent Af the club was the next selec tion, "Winter Song." Thet selection was well rendered. "Ed." Carpenter then sapg .a tenor solo. "In the Garden . of My Heart." Mr. Carpenter has me of 'the best tenors heard At Carolina in the .last few years. ".The encores showed the excellence of the . solo. 'he quartette then. sang a .Jul faby. Three 'times they were brought back and once sang. a ,ribute to the queen . of. Easter Week.The second part began with i cornet solo by Waddy Ander 3on, president of the Glee Club. "Here's Love and Success to Yod" was the best selection given by the GleeClub in body. "Go od ifght" was sung after. the en eore. Mr. Morris Lunpkin, a former member of the Glee Club, and it present a law student,. charm ed. the crowd with . three vocal iolos, one of which was "On. the Road to' Mandalay." The var 31ty quartette sang 'All They, Knew. "The baritone solo, "Love i! Mine," was wel rendered' by 9eigsStannard. ' Mr. Stannard is 'one'of the best baritone soloist that Carolina has ever turned )ut. He" has niade a special 3tudy of music. CAROLINA OVERWHELMS WOFFORD AT TRACK By a Score of 86 to 31 Game cocks Win Meet. Bowen of Carolina Made Migh est Individual Record-Ter riers Show Speed. 'Carolina defeated Wofford in the .track meet Thursday after noon by the.score of 86 to 31. Although no reeords were broken. still excellent time was made considering the condition of the track. The meet was a complete success. A glance . t -the semmary shows that the Gamecocks ex celled in the weights and jump ing events, while the. Mcthodito were superiQr Jin the :dashes. Carolina was : the ..yictpr, in the liscus, hammer, shot, .high and low hurdles, pole vault and the high and broad jump. Wpfford took four of the five running events, being beaten only in the 140 run. Carolina won two places in every event except the half-mile rqn. The individual stars of the meet were Bowen, of Carolina and . Fletcher of -Wofford. , The former won 16 points, the high est individual score of the after noon. Fletcher rnade splendid time on' both the 100 and 220 yard dashes, his 'time being 10 1-5 and 23 2-5 respectively.
