THE NEW FLINN HALL
Our Y. M. C. A. building has
for several years been on the
down-grade. When Flinn Hall
was first turned over to the stu
dents of the University, it was
a general gathering center for
the students. The building was
well heated and lighted and had
plenty of papers and magazines.
However, for the last year or so
there has been very much unnec
essary noise about the place;
the lights are conatinually being
stolen; many of the magazines
take wings and fly, and the fur
niture is being broken up. It is
no more a social gathering
place. Whose fault is all of this?
Secretary King has been doing
all in his power to get things
once more on the up-grade. The
first step was taken when he
laid the facts of the condition of
the place before the student
body and they adopted suitable
resolutions.
In our former days we loved to
gather there, but now the place
without magazines and papers
and in a general bad condition
has no attraction for us.
Evidently no one but the stu
dents are bringing about these
conditions. Of course, the
building is not as large, nor has
it the accommodations that we
would like, but still it is up to us
to protect it as it is and try to
bring about means to get a lar
ger building and better equip
ment. Doubtless you, who
read this article, are not the ones
who are doing all the stealing of
the magazines and the other low
down things, but still, as cas
ual observers, you may see the
guilty person and it is encum
bent upon you to report him to
the student body. A thief will
not report a thief, nor will a
rascal report a rascal. It is up td
you who carry honor always
on your shoulders to report such
cases. What if you do lose a
friend? Do you seek such com
panions?
We hope that it is some oneoff
the campus who is doing this.
The scuffle in Flinn Hall the
other night did not involve out
siders. It is up to the students
to take it in hand, no matter who
is guilty.
We hate to say it, but we be
lieve that there are several
rogues on the campus. This is
not alarming or radically won
dIrous. The alarming thing is
that we stuffer them to remain
among us. T1his of class 'men
causes no little amount of trouble
or ill-feeling.
Let us all cooperate and make1
F'linn Hall a more wvholesome
social center. Flinn Hall is as
you choose to make it and will
make. It is yours. We can sim
ply emphasize the defects. It is
up to the students as a wvhole
to make it the kind of place .it
