Carolina sends two team of two each to the contests The affirmative team meets Ten nessee at Athens, Ga., while th negative team engages Lh Georgians at Knoxvil!c, Tenn The final contest is to be hel the first Saturday night in May The contest for the Gonzale medal is open to all students This contest is held late in th year and1 it is meant chiefly fo seasoned orators. Mr. Haddoi Johnson, of the Euphradian So ciety won this contest last year The biggest contest of th year is the Southern oratorica contest. Carolina has alway stood high in this contest, havinj won first place once and seconc place three times in the last foun years. This contests offers famn to the man who will represen Carolina. A handsome golc medal is offered to the winner "Divine Comedy" Presented President Currell delivered series of three lectures Tuesday Wednesday, and T Ii u r s d a; nights in the city Y. M. C. A on Dante's "Divine Comedy.' The lectures were illustrate( with stereoptican slides, an( spiced with the numerous witti cisms which characterize Dr Currell's speeches. The audi torium was filled to its capacit; each night. The lectures wer given for the benefit of th Children's Clinic. The first lecture, Tuesda night was on the Inferno. Th speaker gave a fiery descriptio: of Hell as seen by Dante. Thursda night the subject was Paradise the last division of the "Divin Comedy." Dr. Currell preface: this lecture with a sketch of Dan te's life and the conditions, pc litical and social, that existed a that time. LECONTE WILL BE STEAM HEATED t Trustees Arranged for Con struction of Fence. V At the meeting of the trustees 'last Thursday it was decided to - put steam heat in LeContg col lege as was originally intehded. t Owing to the small amount of money appropriated by the Leg - islature for the heating of this "building it was thought for a while that Thornwell college r would get the benefit instead. The University architects calcu t lated that to put in a complete I heating and ventilating system 1 such as is found in Davis college - would cost more than has been ' provided for it, while Thorn well - could be properly heated with the sum appropriated. However, the a trustees decided to install the a fixtures in LeConte, but not put Sin as big ventiiating system as that in Davis. Steps were taken also for the immediate construction of the fence around the athletic field and a grandstand. The work has been put in charge of Prof. Coleman and Prof. Holmes. Sev ~ eral sets of plans were submitted - and among others that of Mr. Sompayrac, one of the Universi ty architects, also an alumnus of the institution. The work is to be rushed forward with all pos sible speed in' order that the va rious athletic contests may take t place on the home field. The construction of the fence this year seemed doubtful for a time, but after the appropriation by the Legislature it was a cer tainty that Davis field would be the arena of warfare. The only thing that has delayed the work was waiting for a meeting of the - trustees so that definite action could be taken. Now that the trustees have met and formulat ed working plans, the fence and grandstand will soon add to the attraction of Davis field. Editorial Room. The editorial room which has been secured by Dr. Green is V now vacated and waiting for im e provements. It is the intention 1 to have the room painted and - place desks and files in it. This -work will probably be done with a in the next week, and the editors 1 will find it a great convenience. .Luke Hill was taken ill last R Saturday and was forced to un i dergo an operation Sunday 'morning for appendicitis.
