We wonder if a college girl's

Failure in math is as serious to
a senior's diploma as a -failure in
business is to a man's life.

Never take the advice of a ju

FACULTY AND ATHLETICS
We have on our faculty a few
professors who are thoroughly
interested in athletics. They
show this by buying the sea
son tickets and attending the
various games. But there are
many on the faculty who do not
show their interest in these or
any other ways. We are glad
to say that most of them cooper
ate with the athletic men in al
lowing them to practice, but one
or two of our "tormentors" say
"classes first and athletics after
ward." They are 74 per cent.
right, but they could cooperate
by in^onveniencing themselves
a little While till the season is
over..
Athletics mean a vast deal
to any college and Caro
lina's showing has not been any
too good. We are not 'blaming
this on the faculty but we are,
endeavoring to get them to do
their part in placing our athletics
on a higher plane. A recent edi
torial has arleady pointed out to
the students the importance of
I more and better cooperation in the
future than the they have given
in the past, which support can
be given by going out for the
various teams in the future.
STUDENTS AND PROHIBITION
Carolina students have ever
been forward in movements
tending toward the uplift of so
cial and political conditions. The
latest, and probably the greatest,
recent movement is that of pro
hibition. It is true that the!
wave was not started here, but
the willingness and the prompt
ness with which the students took
hold of this cause is an evidence
of the serious and determined
purpose ever manifest in Caro
lina's manhood.
Prohibition of liquor is frequent
ly;an unpopular stand. But this
spirit is fastly falling. College
students can probably do as much
or more to break down this stumb
ling block to just.ce as any set of
citizens in the State. If every
college student within the State
of South Carolina would say that
liquor must go, there is no force
in our commonwealth that could
withstand the blow. Then the
slogan of the recent organization,
"A Dry Carolina in September"
would he realized.
The South Carolina College
Temperance Society was founded
in the 40's of the last century,
due to the influence of a temper
ance movement that was sweep
ing the State. Each year on the
night of the anniversery of the.
founding of the Society an
oration was delivered in the
chapel by a distinguished citizen.
This practice was continued cer
tainly to the close of the 50's and
probably until the beginning of
the strife between the Stiate.
