WHAT ABOUT IT?
Soon there is to be a big change
in the athletics of Carolina.
The Alumni are going to take
control and Carolina is going to
enter some athletic association.
When this will come about and
what will be the outcome, as
yet we do not know. But we
should know that whatever is
done will most likely put ath
letics of Carolina on a higher
plane and that Carolina will be
able to contend for the Southern
or South Atlantic champion
ships.
The question that confronts
us is, "Are 'the students of the
University and especially the
the athletics doing their part to
help bring this about?" The an
swer is certainly in the negative.
Never in the history of this in
stitution has there been less co
operation in athletics; never l
have members of the various
athletic teams quit in mid-sea
son as this; never have they re
fused to come out to practice;
never have members of the var
sity of the previous years refused
to come out at all. Such has
been the case this year and
tendency is growing worse.
Will the Alumni support our
athletics if this does not cease?
Thei.answer is again negative.
Of the four things mentioned
above, it is better not to go out
for the teams at all; but what
ever is done, do not fool the
coaches or lead hem to count on
you for a certain position. Re
fusal to come out for practice
leads to a "fuss" with the
coaches and then the players
quit. You know what is said of
a quitter. Do not blame the
coaches. It is your own fault.
Of course there may be some ex
cuses but if what is said here.
touches you it is your fault. If
you are a member of a team and
quit, you have taken up the
coaches' time that could have,
been spent on someone else; you
are not only a drawback to the
team, but you are a disgrace to
the institution for you cause the
loss of games that might have
been won.
Do not be a knocker! We do
not knock. We simply point out
the errors that you may correct
them. Athletics is not a thing
to be played with but it is a bus
iness proposition.
Let us all cooperate and help1
carry Carolina up to the place*
she should hold in athletics.:
