CAROLINA ALUMNI FILL LEGISLATURE Lieutenant Governor is Also Old Carolina Student. A recent examination of the personnel of the general assem bly reveals the fact that thirty six of its members are graduates or men who have affiliated them selves with this University. In the house of representatives there are twenty-four Carolina men; in the senate there are twelve. This gives Carolina 22 per cent. of the present general assembly. The list of those in the lower house includes the names of three of our present students-J. S. McInnes, Darlington; Rufus Fant, Anderson and, last but not least, Tonquin LaGrone, of Saluda. Richland county leads the list with Lieutenant Gover nor Bethea, a senator and three out of six members of the house. The supporters of this institu tion may well feel proud of this fact, which possibly is due to the interest taken by the student body in public affairs. Carolina feels proud of her sons who are thus doing honor to themselves. She boasts of the fact that the Lieutenant Governor and thirty-six mem bers of the legislature are her true sons. These facts bear out the reputation of Carolina men in all kinds of work. They are "men of the world." JUNIOR TEAM WINS GAME FROM SENIORS Win Exciting Game from Seniors by the Score of 15 to 13. The junior basketball team won from the senior five Mon day night. During the first half of the game the juniors out played the seniors by scoring twelve points to their opponents one. The seniors came back and made 12 points to the juniors 3 in the second half, and when the game ended the score was 15 to 13 in the juniors' favor. Stewart and Templeton played well for the juniors, while Whar ton and Cohen did equally as well for the seniors. The lineup is as follows: Juniors. Seniors. Templeton. C. ....Wharton Stewart. Referee: Danner. A. F. Brooker, our speedy basketball player, will leave the University the latter part of this week. CITADEL QUINTET DEFEATS CAROLINA Bulldogs Capture Hard Fought Game-Score 24 to 15. The Carolina basketball team went down in defeat at the hands of the Citadel last night. The game was hard fought and was very rough. The score was exact ly the reverse of that last year. The Citadel scored the first few points on fouls. Then Caro lina came back and made the score 8 to 4. Brooker and Wells threw the goals. However, the Citadel soon forged ahead and when the first half ended the score was 13 to 10 in their favor. The second half was a rough and tumble, of which the Cita del got the better, scoring 11 points to Carolina's 5. The good team work of the Citadel was responsible for the defeat. Patrick for the Bulldogs never missed goal on foul. He and Folger were the stars for the Citadel. Wells and Captain Danner played the best ball for Carolina. Brooker Seay..........RG (capt) Danner Holmes.... .. LF ..... Stoney Substitutions: Carolina, Bowen; Citadel, Wells. MR. A. C. DOUGLAS SPEAKS TONIGHT Mr. A, C. Douglas, a former Columbian, but now a prominent lawyer in Washington will speak in the chapel to-night at 8 o'clock. Mr. Douglas has spoken in Co lumbia before, and those who heard him at that time will be present to-night. His theme will be "The Old World and the New." The speaker is a distinguished orator. He came to Columbia to address the State Bar Association and the University is to be con gratulated on being able to hear him. Fees Due February 1. Term fees will be due Tues day, February I. If they are not paid before six o'clock, Feb ruary 2 an extra charge of two dollars will be made. Every body should bear in mind that these fees are due not after ex aminations are over, but while they are in full swing. 0. E., "Doc", Going, our new football captain, was on the campus Tuesday.
