has ,been given to the eleven
members of the Southern Uni
versity Commission for the
study of the, Sace , Adjustment
Problem to be used by the eleven
state universities of:the South in
the Study. of the race problem.
Dr Josiah Morse is the member
of the commission from t is uni
versity, and has charge of the
use of our share of .the fund.
He will le glad to give particu
lars to any student who desires
to take up this work. The prize
is well worth any man's time and
effort, but the benefit that will
be - derived from the study will
probably be .far more valuable.
The problem is one that every
man must face, and it is well
tbat there is an incentive for us
to prepare ourselves to face it.

I blew a pile of "dough" on you

gaudy hue, thy nice white tires

and out for true, in every way.

many bumps and knocks; for thee

frayed are thy seats and worn,
the whooping cough affects thy
horn, I do believe. Thy per
fume swells the breeze, while

motor has the grip, the spark

as representative of the South
Carolina colleges. Chancellor J.
H. Kirkland of .Vanderbilt Uni
versity will speak for the insti
tutions of the country at large.
Professor W. LeConte Stevens,
one of Dr. Currell's associates at
Washington and Lee, and Col.
Asbury Coward, one of Dr. Cur
rell's former teachers, will also
speak. The student body will
be representhd by Haddon John
son.
Dr. Currell will deliver his in
augural address in the State
House at about 8:30 p. m. After
this address the alumni will have
their annual banquet. Several
receptions will be given in honor
of the visitors.
It should be noted that the pro
fessors are to wear gowns at the
afternoon meeting.
PROFESSOR THOMAS ILL
Dean of Law School Granted
Leave of Absence.
The mem bers of the ltw school
and of the entire University re
gret to hear that Prof. Jno. P.
Thomas, dean of that depart
ment, has, at the request of his
physician, been .granted a tempo
rary leave of absence. He will
therefore be absent until the
second term begins. In the
meantime Professors Frierson
and Rucker will divide the work
which Professor Thomas has
charge of.
It is to be hoped that this tem
porary leave will be the means
of restoring Professor Thomasato
health again. His many friends
among the student body, and es
pecially those of the law school,
trust that he will regain his ac
customed vigor and good health,
and that he will soon be able to
resume his duties as dean of the'
law school.
