Dr. Wauchope Speaks.
Last Friday and Saturday Dr.
G. A. Wauchope visited Barn
well and Hampton counties, de
livering educational addresses.
He first spoke at O. F. Chitty's
high school at Fairfax on "Work
and Play" and "A New Method
of Written Analysis." On Fri
day evening he delivered his
popular lecture on "South Caro
lina Literature and Its Makers"
before a large audience in the
high school auditorium in Brun
son. On Saturday Dr. Wauchope
".as the guest of honor and prin
ci.pal speaker at the Hampton
Coun iy Teachers Association,
and spoke on "School Athletics,"
" 4Common Sense Teaching of
Grammar." "Three Lost Arts,"
and "The School House, the Edu
cational Power House." W. J.
Robbins, an honor graduate of
the University, is doing some
fine constructive work as princi
pal of the school at Brunson
where the association met.
On the last Sunday of Novem
ber Dr. Wauchope conducted the
evening services at Benedict Col
lege, where he spoke on "David
as a Poet."
Dr. Venable Will Speak.
Dr. Francis P. Venable, for
merly president of the Univer
sity of North Carolina, will
come as exchange professor
from that institution to the
University of South Caro
lina. He will deliver a series of
addresses on "Radium and Ra
dio-activity." beginning Febru
ary 8. On Fe bruary 10, he will
give a public lecture in the cha
pel on ''Universit y Research."
Dr. Venable is one of the
greatest scientists in America.
In 1905 he was elected president
of' the American Chemical So
ciety. Hie is also a member of
several European acienti fic soci
e'ties. His four' textbooks upon
chemical su bjects are considered
authorities.

Varsity Five Returns to Form,
Wins Pretty Game, 43 to 11.
Carolina overcame the Mills
Y. M. C. A. in basketball Thurs
day night by the score of 43 to
11. The University quintet
showed a complete reversal of
form from that exhibited in the
Wofford game a week ago. Their
opponents were unable to get
under headway in the face of
the strong Carolina offense.
At the end of third quarter
when the varsity retired in favor
of the second string men the
score stood 36 to 2.
The scrubs did not show much
form and both sides scored little
in the rough and tumble contest.
Brooker and Danner played
star ball for the University, as
did Wallace and Taylor for the
Y. M. C. A.
The following men were seen
