In addition to the regular 7'teachers' scholarships in the De partment of Education of the University, three new scholar ships have been recently estab lished. On account of the fact that these scholarships have been made po3sible by the Pea body Board, they are known as the Peabody scholarships. The 4 Peabody Board has granted a gift of $6,000 to the University as a nucleus of a building. It has been arranged by the De partment of Education for the in terest on this gift to be used to maintain three scholarships in the School of Education. Each scholarship is worth $120. It is hardly necessary to say that the holders of these scholar ships will be expected to per form certain duties in the De palttment of Education. Soon after it was announced several weeks ago that these scholarships had been established, about twenty or more students made application for them. The for tunate students are: Miss Thain, Mr. H. C. Brearley, and Mr. J. G. Waters. Miss Thain is one of the Univer sity's most popular and accom plished co-eds, and is a member of the senior class. Mr. Brearly is a member of the junior class. Mr. Waters is a member of the sophomore class. He is a hard student and well deserves the honor of holding one of the schol arships. All three of these students are to be congratulated on their good fortune in landing these new scholarships. The dean announces that here after in giving out the Peabody scholarships preference will be given to graduate students. Mann-"Say Dominick, aret you going to take Blackburn's Physical examination." Last Thursday's game ended the regular football season at Carolina. Next in order come the class football games. Much interest is manifested in the games every year by the stu dents. Having class football also helps the coaches get a line on new material for the next season. The men who have not gone out for varsity ball, try for places on class teams and often prove to be good players. All classes are equally deter mined that they will cop this: y e a r' s championship. The sophomores organized sometime ago and elected McDow as their manager. The juniors will be in charge of Blatt. The other classes are expected to elect their managers soon. Then it will not be long before the class games are played. Dr. Mills Talks. The. regular meeting of the University Civic Club was held on Friday night, Novenmber 20. Dr. Mills of the University facul ty gave an interesting talk to the Club on manufacturing con ditions in the South. He stressed the opportunities being offered to the college man in the manu facturing world. A general discussion of the subject followed Dr. Mills'- address. The mect ing ended with all the members determined to try to help the South make progress, in its manu facturing industries. Vacation is behind; those soft, pleasant nights when we sat with her~ in the old, rcmantic swing on the porch and watched the full, round moon climb the sky in all its mellow glory --are but things of our memory.
