At the regular meeting of the
Engineering Society on Tuesday
night Prof. Homes gave a very
interesting and instructive re
v'ew of the proceedings of the
Americ m Road Congress, which
met in Atlanta last week. The
special theme of his lecture was
"Highway Economics." He

Dr. Mark Baldwin Sr eaks at
Chapel Hour Wednesday.
Dr. Mark Baldwin, the eini

University student body during

ddress lasted only twenty min

The speaker summed up brief
ly the trend of philosophical
thought. He told of the ancient.

ed that the real stuff and mean

believed that the real essence

be known thru the will, and
finally, the Mystics, represented
by Plotinus, who held that truth
and reality are to be reached by
pure feeling. He said that at
present there is a movement call

which seeks to coordinate and
cornbne the elemeits of truths
in the preceding 'systems.
Dr. Baldwin is a native South
Carolinian, being born in Co!um
bia. He is here on a visit to his
brother. II. C. Ba!d win. For
years he was head of the depIart
muent of philosophy at Johns Hop
kins. At the request of Presi
dent Diaz, Dr. Baldwin wvent to
Mexico anid re-wganized the
whole educational syi~stemn in that
country. lie lectured for a
