GUERRANT TO LEAVE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS Resigns Y. M. C. A. Secretary ship at Carolina. W. U. Guerrant. secretary of the Y. M. C. A. at the Univer sity for the past two years. has resigned to enter active minis terial work in North Carolina or Kentucky. The resignation is to take effect at the conclusion of this year's work. "Gi" has been at Carolina two years, and during this time has made a marked success as secre tary of the University Y. M. C. A. He is a man of great person ality and is considered a person . al friend by every student on the e University campus. The stu c dents, faculty and trustees of Ci t'le institution regret that he has 6 decided to leave Carolina. His . place will be hard to fill. This spring Mr. Guerrant, in v addition to his Y. M. C. A. work, -s has coached the Gamecock base ball team and the success of his work is shown in the records ten games won and three lost. Mr. Guerrant is the son of the Rev. Dr. Guerrant, who has (lone splendid work in the mountains of Kentucky. Library Notes. Daring the past few weeks a number of new books have been added to the University library. One of the most recent additions is a ten volume set of Words worth's "Complete Poetical Works" (Warmesley Edition) each volume of which is profuse ly illustrated. Another valuable addition is the "Index to the Catholic Encyclopaedia." This volume completes the set pre sented to the library by Mr. B. F. Taylor and others some time ago. Volumes VIII and IX of the Cambridge History of Eng lish Literature completing the set to date is also now in the li brary. Other books received are Volume VIII part I (Q-R) of the Oxford Dictionary, "The New Freedom," by President Wood row Wilson, a set of the Howard Classics and "A Five Foot Shelf of Books" by I)r. C. W. Eliot. A vaiuable addition to the law department of the library was made recently by the acquisition of a set (almost complete) of South Carolina Digests. Many new books have been or dered but have not yet arrived. The lighting facilities in the library have been greatly im proved. Several table lights have been added and make reading at night much easier. Only a few sfellows are in the Infirmary now. Harry Moore got up from the mumps on Tues day. L. B. Tuten has chicken pox. Coggeshall is indisposed LITERARY SOCIETIES ELECT NEW OFFICERS Jones and Griffith Chosen as Junior Presidents. The election of junior officers in the two literary societies of the University was held Satur day night. The junior presiden cy of the societies is considered one of the greatest honors in col lege. The Clariosophic literary society chose the following officers: presi dent, J. D. Griffith; vice-presi dent, H. 0. Hanna; treasurer, W. J. Scott; secretary, L. W. Hill; sergeant-at-arms, T. C. Jolly; literary-critic, J. A. Tolbert; re corder, C. A. Bruce; librarian, G. M. Meares; board of pardons, P. T. Mace and P. B. Hendrix. The following officers were elected by the Euphradian soci ety: president, Demos Jones; vice-president, H. E. Danner; secretary, J. M. Dabbs; treasu rer, L. B. Harrison; literary crit ic, Haddon Johnson; censor, J. S. Stevens; recorder, R. R. Mc Leod, orderly-critic, Jemes Pur dy; librarian, J. D. Meyers; cus tos-forum, Wilson. Assistant editors of the Caro linian: L. C. Johnson and J. M. Dabbs. Assistant editors of the Gamecock, J. H Dinkins, D. S. Polier, and P. K. Smith. The Clarihsophics did not elect assis tant editors Saturday night. In joint session the following men were elected: editor-in-chief of Carolinian, Haddon Johnson; business manager, H. 0. Hanna; editor-in-chief of Gamecock, W. J. Scott; business manager, T .T. Carroll, and assistant business manager, Crow. Societies' Programs.
