CAROLINA LOST DEBATE Gamecocks Lack Team Work and Lose to Trinity. In a debate held last Saturday in Durham, N. C., the,University of South Carolina was defeated by Trinity College, the decision of the judges being unanimously in favor of the Affirmative. Trinity was represented by G. S. S--xton, H. E. Meyers, and B. W. Barnard. Ca'o i;na's representa tives were J. A. Tolbert, J. S. Dudley, and M. A. Wright. The query was: ' lies -lved that the United States should be among the first three naval powers of the world." The jodges were: Frank Nash, lawyer and historicm writer of Hillsboro, N. C., Harry Howell, superintendent of schools, Ash ville, N. C., and W. C. Jack on, President of Greensbor o Normal College. Hion. Frank C. South gate was the presidinv of ficer. The Trinity debaters excelen on team work. Each of their speeches fitted closely into the other, and their points folbowed each other logically and c!eary. They took the conservative stand that the United Staltes should be just third in naval standing, maintaining that if America dropped lower than third place, that the balance of power would be upset and the possibility of war incEased. T'he South Caro li)a men excelled in elocu tion, but l-cked the team work of the Trinity men. After the debate a reception was given in the Hesperian I-ull in honor of the visiting team. Track Bulletin Issued. A University bu!letin contain ing the rules and regilatitls for tra a;,ietc ,vi - .':tion as to training was issued on Mon day, the 9th, from the campus press. This bulletin is issued es peciaily with a view of foster.ng track athletic: in high schools and to encourage the holding of county meets. These meets c'! minate in the State Inter-High School meet held on D)avis Field Onl April 25. Prof. Bruce Cole man andl John Blackburn ate the authors of the bulletin. Warren Coggeshall had to leave the University the past week to undergo ani operation for app)endicitis. His many friends on the campus wish him a speedy recovery. Do you take the Bird? DECIDING GAME GOES TO VISITORS H ard Luck Had the Gamecocks and They Couldn't Win. In the deciding game of the baseball series with Lafayette college, Carolina was defeated by one run, the final count being four for the Keystonei s and three for the Gamecocks. Hard luck 'eemed to follow the Gameco, ks the whrle game. Sheeren of the visitors was the principal figure in bringing (efeat upon Carolina. Milis pitched a good game, holding the visitors scoreless after the second inning. Lang ston's catch in right was the fea ture of the game. He almost robbed another of a hit, missing it only by an eye lash. The first inning was disastrous for Carolina. Edwards for La fayetie opened with a single to le, L. 1-Helrich f anned, but Scheer en beat out a slow one to tildi sili. Wright was safe at first. with ha-es full. Myers failed to enci one and saw the thisd strike pass. . When Blackburn was at the bat a triple steal scored the first run of the game. Bhick burn singled to center and two more runs crossed the plate. Blackburn was out stealing. The second inning brought the last run for Lafayette. Carolina made her runs in the fourth. Shuler opened with a triple and was foliowed by Edens who also sl:unied one for three sadks. N. Rudisill was out on a pop fly to inteher. Edens scored an I.angston's single.
