year. He withdrew from college
this week. and has gone to Alex
andria, La. to train with the
Cincinnati Reds,
Fritz graduated here last year
with a LL. B. degree. During
last summer he played with Mor
ristown Tenn. of the Appalachi

record. He finished the season

fielding. Such work attracted

Reds via the draft route.
From the beginning Fritz has
been a holdout; not because he
did not want to play National
- League ball, but because it was
his father's wish that he should
practice law rather than play
Z) ball. But his father has agreed
to his trying for the Cincinnati
team, after urgent appeals from
Manager Herzog.
For three years Fritz has been
a star at Carolina. He was cap
tain of the varsity football team,
and no follower of the gridiron

In baseball Fritz was the Uni
versity's first catcher for two
seasons, and was being counted
as the mainstay behind the bat
this year. His departure hits our
team deeply. It is needless for
us to consult Fritz's'league record
to know that he was a star in
baseball at Carolina.
Fritz, as everyone knows, is
from the old town of Charleston.
He attended Charleston College
before coming to Carolina. His
numerous friends in South Caro
lina and at the University regret
very much to see him go. But
he has their best wishes for his
success, and the belief is that he
will make good.
