THE
SMOOTHEST
COME, boys, a cheer-Al to.
gether-V-E-L-V- E-T--amooth.
Velvet cheers you on and chees
you up. It's so smooth. The
selected leaf is hung in the ware
house over two years-changing
harshness to complete mellowness.
Then all "bite" has disappeared
-and good taste and the enjoyable
smoothness are pre-eminent. This "time
process" is not patented-just costs us
more-and the resulk is "Velvet"-(
smooth and wonderfully pleasing.
Now once more - everybody --

BASKETBALL PRACTICE
WILL BEGIN MONDAY
Outlook is Encouraging For
Another "Champ" Team
Coach Blackburn has officially
announced that basketball prac
tice will start Monday of next
week. Regular work-outs will
be held on Mondays, Wednesdays
and Fridays at five o'clock.
Two new courts running across
he gymnasium have been laid
' .tnd baskets put up. Plans
. being made to have a third
>urt installed running length
wise. On the two new courts
four teams can work out at the
ame time and there will be room
"ough for all men who go out
. r practice.
The manager has arranged a
good part of the schedule for the
coming season. The first game
will be, as we have noted in a
nrevious issue, in the gymnasium
.vith Newberry on Decembor 12.
trrangements for the North
Carolina-Virginia trip have been
completed and the team will leave
for Wake Forest on Tuesday, Jan
uary 13, 'playing there that night
and moving on to Raleigh to play
A. & M. on Wednesday. Thurs
day night is booked for Trinity
at Durham, and the next two
days will be spent in Lexington,
Va., where Washington and Lee
and V. M.. I._will be. met. The
first game after exams wi" prob
ably be with the Citadel on Feb
ruary 7 on the home floor. The
next week is open, but some
game will be staged here. The
manager is trying to get a game
with Clemson for the 18th, and
Wake Forest will be here on the
24th. The team will probably
go to the City by the Sea for the
last two days in the month and
play the Citadel and Charleston
College. If possible games with
Wofford, Furman and a second
game with Newberry will be ar
ranged.
This schedule, as the reader
will see, is a hard one and con
tains more games than any pre
viou3 schedule. Coach Black
burn urges that men report as
promptly as possible for practice.
He means to put out the best
team the material at hand war
rants, and, that ought to mean
another team of State champs.
