Clemson - Carolina Game Thursday
Big 'Un and Wop were in the
little practice game last Fair
Week and are going in again
Thursday to help tame the Tiger.
Big Ned will also get in the fight
and his avoirdupois will push
any Clemsonite down the field
like a toy. McTeer is also show
ing up well and may be run in
the game.
End-Luke Hill, Jitny Sligh,
Edmunds, and Fant constitute
the corps of Gamecock ends.
These first two are the best in
the country. They outclassed
the Tiger extremities last year
and will show them up again.
When Luke and Jit are in the
game, Hornik puts his money on
Carolina, and gives odds. No
runner ever got by them yet and
none ever will.
Quarter-Billy Harth, Kid
Bristow and Runt Coggeshall are
the Carolina quarters. Every
body remembers the stunt Billy
pulled off last year in the Clem
son game. It has been whis
pered about the campus that he
is going to repeat it. Just watch
him get away for a touchdown.
Bristow was seen against the
Tiger last year and Runt showed
his goods in the Virginia game.
Half-Dan Heyward, Marcus
Boulware, will figure at half.
Everybody knows they have the
goods and hand all they have to
the opposing crew on every down.
Dan's work against Clemson last
season was spectacular. His
running was brilliant and he
picked his openings well. Char
lie Edwards has shown up well
New Trophy Cup
One more cup has been added
to the collection of trophies in
the library. This is the cup for
championship in doubles in tennis
given by the city of Greenville to
the South Carolina Tennis Asso
ciation. Because it has no more
space for records a new cup has
been given by the business men
of Columbia and the old one be
comes the property of the,univer
sity. In the six times that the
cup has been contested for it has
come to Carolina four times.
The new cup is also to remain at
Carolina until the next tourney,
in practice and will probably get
in the game.
Full-Bub Langston will be
seen at fullback. He is one of
the hardest fighters to be found
on the gridiron in this part of
the country. Bub goes through
the line with a whirlwind twist
that defies all attempts to tackle.
He gives all he has to the game,
and he has a lot.
Porter is showing the goods in
the backfield and may be run in.
Kerr also has good stuff and
what it takes to give the Tigers
one in the neck he has it.
Literally thousands of specta
tors will be out at the Fair
Grounds to witness the biggest
football event in Sohth Carolina.
The supporters of the two teams
are about evenly divided and
spirit will run high. The com
mittee in charge have made
I
ample arrangements for accomo
dating the crowd. New bleach
ers with a seating capacity of.
3,000 have been erected opposite
the old grandstand which is to
be used for reserved seats. Auto!
mobiles are to be parked at the
southern end of the field. A
stout wire fence incloses the en-.
tire field, and no one will be al
lowed inside of this except the
two teams, the coaches and
officials.
The Gamecock eleven goes into
the game determined to repeat
the dose they administered to
the Tiger last year. They have
their last year's record to uphold
and the team confidently backed
by the entire student body and
hundreds of other loyal support
ers means to mop up.
due to the good work of Brooker
and Crawford at Ridgewood last'
week.
The university places great
store .in these trophies. They
are things that could not be re
placed, as the records on them*
were won by Carolina men for.
Carolina. They are trophies of
victory and and as such no new
cup could ever replace them.
The Waring brothers are to be
thanked in a large measure for
the presence of this cup at the'
university as they won it in sev
eral tournaments while repre
