CAROLINA TRACK TEAM
MEETS WITH DAVIDSON
"Tight Wad" Bouchier, manager
of the 1913 track team, has an
nounced that he has closed a contract
for a dual meet with Davidson, April
2, in Columbia. Coach Driver has
ordered that track candidates begin
work immediately in order to be in
the best possible form for the event.
Rumor has it that there is much
track timber among the new comners
this year. Dan Heywood is known
to be a genius in' transversing the
hurdles; young Templeton flits
around the quarter in good time, and
"Andy" Anderson, of football fame,
is said to be a gifted jumper. More
track talent will undoubtedly appear
among the new men. Among the
old heads are: Paul, John and Lu
ther Hill, Monckton, Hollock, Elzey,
Templeton, Brohun, I-Iarth, Mob
ley, Danner, Dudley, Fitzmaurice,
Vandiver and Weathers.
Trustees Visit Campus.
Several members of the board of
trustees were seen lurking around
the campus this week to attend a
meeting of that board held in the
library WVednesday. .
Official dope on this meeting is
scarce as hen's teeth, but from a few
words dropped by Dr. Mitchell in
chapel it is thought that its object
was to make arrangements for the
immediate beginning of the work on
the new dormitory and mess hall.
At 4 p. m. Friday afternoon the
language teachers of the State met
in the chapel of the university for
the purpose of forming an associa
tion. The purpose of this associa
tion will be twofold, the discussion
of methods of teaching and the im
provement of scholarship and the in
crease of interest among the teach
ers. This meeting has been called
by the University Philological Club,
which at its last meeting appointed a
committee of Professors Green,
Keith andl Wauchope to make the
necessary arrangements. Professor
Chamberlayne in a brief illustrated
lecture set forth the results of the
excavations in Crete.
The first wvritten examinations at
the South Carolina College wvere held
in June, 1854. They lasted from
