REVIEW OF FOOTBAI SHOWS GAMEC( Three Games Hav Lost and One 1 Win . Likely tc Team Has Scc Oppone With only one more game the Carolina football team bids fair to close the season with a splendid rec ord. Leaving out of account the game with Porter last Saturday, which was nothing more than a practice contest, the Gamecocks have won three games, lost two and tied one. Those two losses were honor able defeats, coming at the hands of the University of Virginia and the University of Florida, both of these institutions taking high rank in, the football of the South. Victories were scored over Wake Forest, the College of Charleston an Clemson college, while the no-decision event was a 6 to 6 wrangle with the Lni versity of North Carolina. Dope on the annual affray with the cadets points to a Carolina victory, though of course, comparative score afford very poor reasoning on which to justify a prophecy. Clemson swept the Citadel off her feet and rolled up a score of 5 t to J 4 and Carolina put it over the Tiger by a comfort able margin, so it seems that the CITADEL TEAM MET THANKSGIVING DAY (Continued from Page One.) and will probably be seen at that position during the game, though he may work for a while at end. 1He is fast, runs well with the ball and is a sure tackler. With these changes the line-ul will be about the sale as that seen against Clemison. Gi rardeau wvill work at center with Stonev' and( Porter as bucking partners in the guard positions. Mills and Avinger will tendl the tackles, Sligh and Kol lock will repose on the wings. Back Field. The hack field will see many changes (luring the course of the game,but the most likely quartet for starting the fracas will be as fol lows: Harth, quarter; H-eywardl and *Hill, halves, and Langston, full *back. These men are all strong and - heady and will pick any holesi that the line opcns up. The 1912 season started well for the Gamecocks when they took Wake Forest into the camp on Davis field by the score of 1o to 3. Vir ginia put one over the locals the fol lowing week in Charlottesville, Va., to the tune of 19 to o. The next game was with the University of Florida and the Alligators, with the strongest team in their history, copped, 10 to 6. The College of Charleston was then met in Charles ton and the Maroon and White fell before the Carolina attack by the overwhelming score of 68 to o. The diamond link in the golden chain of victories came, however, when the Clemson Tigers were beaten, 22 to 7. The last game, played Saturday with the University of North Carolina. resulted in a tie score, 6 to 6. In these games the Gamecocks have amassed a total of 112 points to their opponents' 45. shoved in the back feld (luring part of the game. The Citadel's Fort. Only one feature of the Citadel attack is feared by the Gamecocks. that is the long forward passes which the Charleston bunch gets away with. In this department of play the Bulldogs are highly special ized and it has proved a splendid ground gainer through all the sea son. The Carolina defense is being trained to break up the long passes and if the ends and backs operate in the Thanksgiving game as they did in the Clemson contest there should be nothing doing on this play. Mayor Gibbes andl Dr. Reavis, both members of the law school, visitedl the Euphradian society last Saturday evening. They wer elect ed honorary members of the society at the beginning of the year.. Members of the Porter team and the cadets wvho accompanied the team to this city wvere guests of honor at a dlelightful dance given in the gymnasium Saturday evening of last wveek. The college orchestra rendered the music .for the occasion and( about thirty couples were pres ent, besides a goodly number of stags. T'he ev'ent was one of the most dlelightful affairs of the p)resent season. BASKETBALL TEAM SHOWS GOOD FORM Semi-Weekly Practices in Gym Draw Strong Bunch of Contenders for Places on Team. The official basketball practice began a short while ago, although niany of the men have been out for two months. There is a good squad out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, practice (lays, and as soon as football is over many of the foot ball players will come out for basket ball. Every member of last year's 'varsity squad is out again this year. From the bunch of newcom ers there is some very promising material and the old heads will have to work hard in order to retain their places in the line-up. With such an abundance of ma terial and with good hard practice Carolina should put out a fine team. Manager Greenfield is arranging dates with some of the larger Vir ginia and North Carolina colleges and universities which will be met on an extended trip through those States. Society Programs for Tonight. The program arranged for the Euphradian society for tonight is as follows: Readers, Anderson, Bates, Bov leston ; declaimers, Deschamps, P'o lier, Lee ; weekly orator, 3ouchier. Subject for extemporaneous speaker, "The Carolina-Davidson Debate." Debaters: Affirmative, Wright, 3ro hun ; negative, 11. C. Smith, Bush. The GAlee club held the first vocal "work out" of the year in the chapel Wednesday evening with quite a bunch of men present. Practice was necessarily light as the voices of squad members have become stiff enedl by non-use. All the kinks will be wvorked out within a few weeks and some of the real stunts of vocal gymnastics attenmpted. The Engineering association, re cently formed, met Monday morninug and adopted a constitution wvhich had been prepared by a committee. This document fully sets forth the purposes of the organization.
