ENGINEERING STUDENTS UNITE IN ASSOCIATION Edward McCrady, President of Or ganization-Plans Adopted for Securing Room and Lectures. The students of the engineering department, acting on the suggestion of Prof. Hlomes, met recently and formed the Engineering Society of the University of South Carolina Edward McCrady was elected presi dent ; A. M. Greenfield, Jr., vice president ; C. FitzSimons, Jr., secre tary and treasurer, and M. S. Bro hun, historian. This organization will be to the engineering department what the Law association is to the depart nient of law. Its object is to pro mote fellowship and scholarship among the members. Students.tak ing an engineering course are elig ible for membership. Meetings will be held the first Thursday in each month, at which members of the en gineering faculty will be invited to make short talks. The society will be addressed at least once during the year by some eminent engineer. A reading room has been arranged for and on the tables there will be found all the leading engineering periodicals. This room will also be open at all times for members to use as a study hall. CIVIC CLUB PLANS TO INSPECT SLUMS Will Investigate Mill Conditions and Negro Sections of Columbia Under Leadership of I)r. Morse. The efficient secretary of the uni versity, Miss S. F. Fickling, has re cently completed a dwelling in Shan don. The material used is brick coated with stucco. The building is a large t wo-story one, and is equipped in accordance with modern ideas. All who have seen it con gratulate Miss Fickling upon the appearance and convenience of her new home.
