MR. .DYCHES WILL LEAVE CAROLINA Resigned to Go to His Farm Near Wallaceville. Has Been a Familiar Figure on the Campus for the Past Eighteen Years. Marshall Dyches, the students' friend and one of the most familiar figures of the University, will leave m; his wdrk here at an early date and go to his farm near Wallaceville. 8 It is with the deepest regret that c the students see Mr. Dyches leave, '6 for certainly since he has been on c the campus he has lived close to the boys here, and his deep personal in . terest in each one has made him a place in the hearts of all who have ?. attended the University. We wish for Mr. Dyches the best of success in his new work, and hope that when he leaves he will not en tirely forget the campus, but will come often to wonder about the haunts that have known him so long and loved him so well. D. G. Yarborough, '12, was on the campus a few clays during the past week. Mr. Kennedy, the librarian, wants copy No. i, volume 4 of last year's GAMECOCK to complete his files. If any one has this copy, kindly hand same to Mr. Kennedy. The visitors' book in the library, which has been neglected for some years past, will be revived and all visitors at the library will be re quested to register. Keith have moved into their newv haine, 'which is near that of Profesene Tuite CAROLINA MEETS DAVIDSOl IN DEBATE Debate to Be Held in Chapel at Winthrop College. Tarheel Institution and South Caro linians Will Test Strength on Field of Oratory. On December the second the Uni versity meets Davidson in intercol legiate debate at \Vinthrop College, Rock Hill, S. C. Last year the Carolina team won over the David son team and hope to repeat the per formance this year. The query is: "Resolved. That all American ships should pass toll-free through the Panama canal." Con (lition-It being understood that by American ships is meant vessels merchants or passengers-flying the United States flag by authority of Congress. The University will up hold the affirmative. The University of South Carolina Founded by the State in 1801 in the Capital City The University has the following departments of study: I. The College, with various courses of study in Lan guages, History, Science, etc., leading to the degrees of A. B. and B. S. Five general scholarships, worth from $100 to $150 each. II. Graduate School, with advanced courses leading to the degree of Master of Arts. The graduates of the colleges of South Carolina are ad mitted-to the University in all courses, except Law, without charge for tuition. III. The School of Commerce and Finance, with a course leading to the degree of A. B. Special two-years' course for men who expect to enter business, journalism, the public service, or law. IV. School for Teachers, which seeks to prepare persons to serve the State as teachers, principals and superintendents of schools. In this course the A. B. degree is conferred. Forty-three teachers' scholarships, each worth $100 in cash and exemption from tuition and term fees. V. Engineering, Civil and Electrical, leading to the degrees of G. E. and E. E. Practical Work in Road Construction. VI. Iaw, with a course leading to the degree of LL. B. The presence of the various courts and the use of the State Law Library afford exceptional facilities. Graduates of the Law School are admitted to the State Bar without examination. Through its system of Extension Teaching the University offers correspondence courses, public lectures, and night classes, to persons unable otherwise to receive academic .College fees for the year, $18.
