On the second of December the University of South -Carolina meets Davidson at \Vinthrop College in debate. In view of this coming event it was deemed advisable that the attention of the student body be called to this meeting for several reasons. Last year about two 11u1 dred mlen came with their team from Davidson and about forty went from Carolina. Every muan who went to \Winthrop last year will tell you that the trip >v4s a greater pleasure than any other two social events of the year. In spite of the fact that we were outnumbered more than four to one, we put Davidson out of the running when we rose to cheer our debaters. Not until Monday morning last in chapel has a Caro lina bunch come together in such a manner as did the forty men who represented the "Garnet and Black" at Winthrop. Now, this year we want at least two htulnd-redl Imn to g;o to Rock Hill with the dehters and if this number can he gotten a special coach will be secturel for transportation. Those who go can leave here at 3 :20 Mon day a fterlnooln and get back for chapel 'uesda' morning. Think this over anld make arrangements to be one of the bunch. It is useless to in form the students that at the last matinee of a football game held in ahmsonj H-all the management wvent somUethIing like ten dlollars in the hole. Th'lis fact was made kniown to the stud(ent b)ody at one of its late meetings. Nowv, for the benefit of the two or three hun dIred students who cannot go wvith the teams these matinees were ar r-angedl for, a fter much(71 w~ork on the p)art of the management and it is up to those students to see that these matinees are successes and not fail tures like the last one. The price is small and in th'e ieach of every man on the campus and it certainly be hooves every man of us to lend' our support. Do you realize that in attending these matinees y(u are supporting your athletics jus as much so as if you were attendin a game on Davis Field ? The proceeds over expenses go to the Athletic Association to help defray the expenses of running tle teams. Now if you have not been in the habit of attending these matinees, go to the next one and you won't be willinA to miss any more. Don't he a tight-wad, support your teal 11. Good-bye. With this issue the old staff of TE, iG M ECOCK slips the harness and gives way to the new. It is with a feeling of sadness that we sur render our duties as editors of our college weekly to another, and yet with this feeling of sadness there is intermingled a feeling of joy, for we feel that it wiil find in those hands that will guide it for another brief period a guardian that will ever look to the best interest of'the Iaper. \Ve have tried during our term of offiee to mlake IlErr GAME CoCK a college man's paper; how far we have succeeded or failed in this we leave to the students of Carolina. It has been a pleasant task to try and make this the best college weekly publication in the State, and it is with a feeling of reluctance that we surrender the reins to another. Mr. \Vright, the new editor-in chie f. has already seen service on the staff, and is a newspaper man of much ability, and under his leader ship we predict for THE GAMECOCK greater things in the future than it ever dreamed of in the past. Help Wanted. \hen you, my student friend, packed your trunk and started to college, Vou made a public confes Sion to the world that you wanted help. \Vhen you arrived at this l'niversity you expected the profes swrM to tell Vou how and where to get help. Well, if a man wants and needs help and he has a friend to tell him how and where to go for help, it seems only natural for him to follow directions, and if he does not, he neceds some one to diagnose his case. Now, as a friend the Y. AI. C. A. wvants to tell you w'here help of the real kind can he found and the cost will lbe nothing. It is a fact that mainy menCi have beeni helped by attending Mission stud(y cl,asses, and here are a few ways they are helpful. i. Tt will enlarge your indAividutal life. It will prove fundamental to a well. ordered education. Every edu cated man is supposed to be posted on news outside his own county and State. There is no better way to get posted than to take a mission class. 5. It will destroy selfishness and emphasize service as the real goal and purpose of life. No man can study missions and not feel that the men who are open ing up new nations and making their impress upon mankind are men whose life is given up to unselfish service. And this makes the great life. - We are sorry to say some of these classes are too small and we urge every man who hasn't joined to do so at once-just give your name to the leader of the class you wish t join. These classes are modern and up-to-date and deal with questions that concern every live man and it is our urgent request that every stu (lent join and carry away the best the teacher and class offer.
