"The Future of the Southern Col lege Press Association," Louis K. -agood, University of South Caro lina. R. E. Gonzales presided at Wednesday mornin g's session. After the opening address made by F. Wm. Cappelmann, Jno. S. Reynolds, of The State, and Sam Latimer, Jr., Geo. P. Waller, Jr., was elected tem porary chairman and Sam Latimer, Jr., temporary secretary of the con vention. One of the mQst interesting fea tures of the entire convention .was the address on "College Spirit in College Journalism" given by Dr. Charles W. Kent -in the auditorium of the College for Women on last Wedlnesday evening. And coming as a most delightful climax to the exercises of that evening was the reception tendered the delegates in the parlors of the College for Wo Inen. Fach one felt that the evening had been spent in a most helpful manner. On account of the absence of Dr. Mitchell, Mayor Gibbes pre sided. Thursday's session was equally helpful to those who are looking forward to journalism. Each feature was a study in itself. Indeed it was the select students of the South who contributed to the final success of each meeting. The addresses were given in the order of the program printed. in last week's issue. After the delegates had spent a most valuable week-a part at least -and all had been given a chance to add instructive words of advice during the several meetings, the of ficers of the association were elected as follows: President - Broadus Mitchell, University of South Carolina. First Vice- President-Sam Lati mer, Jr., University of South Caro lina. Second Vice-President--Geo. P. Waller, Jr., University of Virginia. Recording Secretary-Robert B. Jackson, \XVilliam and Mary. Corresponding Secretarmy - Brte yard P. Stephenson, University of North Carolina. Treasurer-J. M. Workman, Clemson College. Executive Committee-Sam Lat j.mper,. Jr., Univemsity of South Caro lina, chairman ; J. H-. Kangeter and G. J. H-earsey, Clemson College; WV. TP. Wolfter, University of Georgia, and L. K. H-agood, University of South Carolina. Coming as a finial climax was the first annual Southern College Press Association ball, given in honor of the delegates by the German Club of the University of South Carolina. This affair wvill cloubtless linger in the minds of the delegates for many, many years. In a word, the convention was a grand success and points to many other rsipilar annual gatherings for the Southern College Press Associa tion. STATE TEACHERS MEET IN CHARLESTON Dr. Mitchell, Prgfessors 3aker, Ward law, Hand and Tate Represent Carolina. Dr. Mitchell, a'companied by Pro fessors Baker, Wardlaw, 1-land and Tate, left Thursday morning for the City by the Sea to attenl the State teachers' meeting. This is the 40th annual convention of the South Car olina Teachers' Association. The Charleston people gave the teachers a pleasant time while they were in their midst.
