THE CAROLINA TEAM. DOWNS DAVIDSON Gets Away With Series Played on the Home Lot. In two of the closest, most ex citing games of the season, Carolina defeated Davidson here Monday and Tuesday afternoons. The first game was played at Elmwood Park. With DuBose pitching an air-tight game everything broke our way to the last.- Although the North Caro linians threatened to tie things. tip several times, they were unable to hit in pi-nches. VonKolnitz received in excellent form. His quick, sure pegging o caused several would-be pilferers to die at the half-way station. The game Tuesday afternoon was played on Davis Field. - Davidson cs started things by tallying twice in 6 the first inning. Carolina tied the a score in the third. For the next three innings neither side could reg 4 ister a run. In the eighth the Game C3 docks landed on Davidson's pitcler, a and from then until the game ended made a hit and run game out of it. Davidson used three pitchers in a vain enceavor ,to stop the slaughter. VonKolnitz again starred behind the bat. The hitting of Watts and McGowan were features of the sec ond contest. Scott Elected President of State Oratorical Association. At the annual meeting of the State Oratorical Association at Rock Hill last Friday, April 26, William H. Scott, of this p)lace, was elected pres idlent for next year. Scott comes from Greenville and has taken a gre at dleal of interest in college af fairs since entering the University. H-is sound judgment and intellectual ability has wvon for him some dis tinction in college annals. Having been electedl last year president- of the Woodrowv Wilson League of College Men, he has since piloted 'that organization to a de cided success, and he wvill no doubt make the State Oratorical Associa tion a wvorthy presidtent. TRACK TEAM ROUNDING INTO. CONDITION Men Who Are Trying Out and Their Events-Prospects Good. Our track team is rapidly round ing into shape and under the able guidance of Coach Driver it will doubtless prove a winner. Many of the men who composed last year's team are trying out. Some of these are: Alan Paul, Monckton, Kollock, Vandiver, J. Hill and \V. H. Wat son. Besides these men, whose abil ity is well known, there are some new men who are expected to deliver the goods. Some of the men who are trying for the various events are as follows: Hundred-yard dash-Monckton, Dudley, J. Hill, L. Hill, Alan Paul. Two hundred and twenty-J. Hill, Busbee, Templeton, L. Hill, Alan Paul. Four hundred and forty--Rogers, Harth, Kollock, Templeton. Half mile-J. Hill, L. Hill, Harth, Vandiver and Watson. Mile--Veathers, Rogers, J. Hill and Harth. Pole vault-W. H. PROFESSOR CARSON TO LECTURE ON AVIATION An Interesting Treatment of This Subject is Promised Thursday Night in Chapel. At 8:30 o'clock Thursday night Professor Carson will deliver his ad dress on Aviation. Professor Car son is perhaps better acquaiited with the subject of flying than any in our midst today. The lecture had been scheduled for an earlier date, but owing to utin avoidable interruptions in the course of popular lectures had to be post poned. Professor Carson will treat the subjcct from a physicist's point of view, and will doubtless tell his audi ence how they can soar among the clouds if they wish. The students should take advan tage of hearing Professor Carson on such a timely subject. It is a gPeat subject of interest to all. Wake Forest Here Monday. The Carolina aggregation of slab artists cross bats with the strong Wake Forest team on Davis Field Monday. Wake Forest defeated the Gamecocks when they visited the tarheels on the ioth. This promises to be one of the hardest fought con tests of the season. Carolina is go ing for the Wake Forest crew to even matters up.
