STATE TRACK MEET HELD HERE NEXT WEEK Three Institutions Will Contest for Honors on Davis Field Saturday, April 27. The great intercollegiate track meet, to which everyboly has been looking forward withe such keen interest, is almost here. The (late has been arranged for the 30th. On Davis field on that day Wofford, Furman and Carolina will battle for first place in the various feats. All three of the contestants have strong mlen to represent them in every one of the stunts to be pulled off. The meet should attract quite a large crowd. It is expected that the grandstand will be well filled. From all that can be learned all of the colleges are working iard to make this meet a success. The names of the several contestants will probably be given out next week. In a day or two after the inter collegiate meet Carolina field day will. come off, and following this will come a meet with the city Y. M. C. A. Many valuable prizes are offered to the *winners of the places at the Carolina field day. A fter so much good practice the Carolina bunch will take a trip to Wofford or Furman, or probably both. This will mean much to the track men as well as to the lUlniver sity. Tennis Tournament Will be Held at Carolina. For the first time in two years the officers of the tennis association are about to run off a handicap tournament. It will be very desir able to have enter two or three doubles, teams from the faculty, a half dozen or more from the sit dents and several from the friends of the University in the citv. All who are in any way interested in tennis are earnestly requested to take part. There will be two prizes in (loubles aid two in singles, the only one now ascertained is an $.oo Kent racket offered by S. B. Mc Master. The association is very anxious to play off the, whole meet from F'ridlay, April 19, to Tuesdlay, April 23. In fact it must be finished b)y then. THE CAROLINA CREW HAS A BAD SLUMP Baseball Trip Has Not Been Success ful-Team Returns Tomorrow. Play Davidson and Tennes see Soon. The Northern trip has not been altogether a success. Surely not as successful as the many admirers of the Gamecock crew had hoped. The hoodoo has certainly clung tena ciously to the wearers of the Garnet and Black since they left the home lot on the ninth. The team has had one of those incredible slumps. Carolina's inability to connect with the pill with men on bases has kept the big end of the score out of their reach. The Gamecocks will try their spurs on Davidson and the Univer sity of Tennessee at an early (late. Ily then we hope to have vanquished the hoodoo and go after these games with the old time pe). Wilson League of College Men Near ing Completion. 'I'he Woodrow \Vilson League of College Mien is still carrying on vigorously the campaign of organi zation. Although no new clubs have been organized recently those already formed are growing in icmbership daily. '[lhe work of the clubs have been gratifying and the organization bids fair to sweep the country for Wilson in the coning camplaign. Some clubs will most probably send a delegate to the )emliocratic convention at Baltimore in Juine. The advisory board of the organ ization has recently sent letters to every club asking that each club send $5.00 to the treasurer to help defray expenses and aid in pushing the work of organization to com lletionl.
